Los Angeles School Police Department

Los Angeles School Police Department Our Police Officers are assigned to specific campuses and patrol areas.

The Los Angeles School Police Department (LASPD) is the largest independent school police department in the United States, with over 200 sworn police officers, over 60 non-sworn school safety officers (SSO), and 40 civilian support staff. Unique to the LASPD team is the variety of assignments and services it delivers to its customers: the students and faculty at the schools, the employees of the LAUSD, and the communities in which the students live. Our School Safety Officers are also assigned to school district facilities and parking enforcement. The LASPD also shares jurisdiction and interacts with over 13 municipal and county law enforcement agencies (to include multiple outside agency divisions and stations), as well as state and federal law enforcement and emergency services agencies. The LASPD team is a progressive and forward-thinking organization enjoying the support of the LAUSD Board of Education, Superintendent, staff, and parents who recognize the important role the LASPD plays in keeping their children and students safe. LASPD personnel concentrate their policing efforts on improving campus safety and creating safe school passages for students, staff, and school community. The goal of the LASPD team is to address the quality-of-life issues that impact student safety and the ability of the students and staff to enjoy a safe learning environment free from the fear of crime. Our team is also committed to ensuring a safe school community as we partner with local municipal law enforcement agencies, residential and business communities, faith-based organizations, and various non-profit community-service organizations.

Shout out to the Los Angeles School Police Department Football Club for representing us this past weekend at the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Athletic Association Indoor Soccer Tournament.

We didn’t bring home the trophy this time but we had a great time competing and building camaraderie.

The LASPD is proud to have Officers and Detectives who embody the spirit of lifetime fitness and pursue what they love on and off the field. Their teamwork, dedication and passion make us stronger, as athletes and as a department.

🚨 Suspects caught in the act!

B-Watch officers stayed sharp and vigilant, responding to a school that has faced repeated burglaries during the night. Their quick actions led to taking the suspects into custody. 🌃🔦🚓

Central Division officers joined the live feed from the Ground Zero Memorial this morning during roll call, standing in solidarity with the nation. Officers then paused for a moment of silence at 6:59 a.m., marking the exact moment the South Tower collapsed at 9:59 a.m. EST, 25 Years ago, on September 11th, 2001. In that solemn moment, our Honor Guard presented colors in tribute to the lives lost.

Officers reflected on their experiences and the lasting impact of that day. Civilian staff also shared a newspaper from the following morning, a strong reminder of the grief, unity, and strength felt across the country.🗽🇺🇸

In recognition of the 25th anniversary of September 11th, during the month of September, we remember those who perished by wearing a commemorative badge.

The badge honors the nearly 3,000 lives lost: civilians, firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and other first responders who answered the call that day and the countless families and communities impacted by the events.

Wearing the badge is our way of recognizing the courage, selflessness, service, and sacrifice demonstrated on that day and the days that followed.

We will never forget.🇺🇸

The Lineage Warehouse fire had a devastating impact on several of our school communities in the Boyle Heights area.

We visited Garfield High School, Stevenson Middle School, and Eastman Elementary School. These campuses are still being affected by the incident, with foul odors still present in the surrounding area.

LASPD remains fully dedicated to assisting our students, teachers, administrators, and community in maintaining our campuses safe and ready for students to learn. 🏫🚸🎒
