⚠️ Wisconsin Air Quality Alert ⚠️

Smoke from ongoing Canadian wildfires is creating hazardous air conditions across much of Wisconsin. Even healthy individuals may experience coughing, eye irritation, headaches, or shortness of breath. The Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin encourage everyone to limit outdoor activity when possible, keep windows closed, run air conditioning on recirculate with clean filters, and take extra precautions for children, older adults, and those with heart or lung conditions. If extended time outdoors is unavoidable, a properly fitted N95 mask may help reduce exposure to harmful smoke particles. Stay informed, check on family and neighbors, and seek medical attention if you experience severe breathing difficulties or chest pain.

As families and communities gather to celebrate Independence Day, the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin encourage everyone to put safety first. Fireworks can cause serious injuries, fires, and property damage in just seconds. The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a professionally conducted display. If fireworks are used, keep a safe distance, have water readily available, closely supervise children, and properly dispose of used fireworks by soaking them in water before discarding them. A few simple precautions can help ensure that everyone enjoys a safe and memorable Fourth of July. From all of us at PFFW, have a happy, safe, and enjoyable Independence Day! 🇺🇸🎆

Extreme heat can impact anyone, but it poses a particular risk to those working outdoors, exercising, attending events, or spending extended time in the sun. Staying hydrated, taking breaks, wearing light-colored clothing, and recognizing the early signs of heat illness can help prevent serious medical emergencies. Watch for symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, excessive sweating, rapid heart rate, or confusion, and take action immediately if they occur. Just as importantly, check on children, older adults, neighbors, coworkers, and pets who may be more vulnerable to the heat. A few simple precautions can make all the difference. Stay safe, stay hydrated, and look out for one another.

A few minutes can make all the difference. As temperatures rise across Wisconsin, remember that the inside of a vehicle can become dangerously hot in a very short period of time, even with the windows cracked. Never leave a child or pet unattended in a vehicle, not even for a minute. Before you lock your car, take one extra look in the back seat and make sure everyone is out safely. Help us spread the message: Leave No One Behind. Not Even for a Minute.

Extreme heat can affect anyone, but dehydration often develops before we realize it. Whether you’re working outside, responding to emergencies, exercising, or simply enjoying time outdoors, staying hydrated is one of the most important steps you can take to protect your health. The urine color chart is a simple tool that can help you monitor your hydration level throughout the day, lighter colors generally indicate good hydration, while darker colors may be a sign that your body needs more fluids. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink water. Take breaks when needed, watch for signs of heat illness, and check on coworkers, family members, neighbors, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to the heat. A few extra glasses of water today can help prevent a medical emergency tomorrow. Stay safe, Wisconsin.

The PFFW is pleased to endorse Robyn Vining for State Senate. We saw her step up to support first responders during the devastating flooding in 2025 and she has been a strong supporter on issues that affect the health and safety of our members, especially in the area of first responder mental health.
