πŸ’‘πŸŒ³ Lighting at Sycamore Update

Multi-use path lighting is stated as a priority in the Northeast Area Plan, this means that approval to move forward from the Common Council isnt necessary and that Traffic Engineering can reallocate funds toward this project. The project was originally over budget but It looks like they are revisiting this project and it is underway now. Keep an eye out for our District 3 Alder's blog post for more updates.

Community Garden Proposal Update:

The survey garnered almost 30 responses, all but one were in favor. Parks denied the proposed location this week, including Sycamore Park in its entirety. They offered a different site at Mayfair Park, which is a half mile down the road.

Reasons for denial are stated as:

The proposed location would limit the size of the existing soccer field. A park having two full-size adult soccer fields is a rarity in the park system and the fields are reserved regularly.
There are 3 Elm trees, currently pretty small, located on the south side of the soccer field that we expect to provide significant canopy in the area as they mature.
Considering other areas within the park, the field area to the north of the path/west of the playground is less popular for use, but also often wet after rain events. All areas within the path area surrounding the dog park bring former landfill concerns.

The bright side is that Urban Planning is revisiting work on implementing the first CAS project in the Northeast Area Plan, lighting along the multi-use path in Sycamore Park. It sounds like they intend to utilize the block grant funds plus reallocate funds to supplement the cost. We hope there will be a public input period, alternatively, individuals can email Urban Planning directly. We are excited about the lighting, as many neighbors have desired lighting for a number of years. πŸ’‘πŸŒ³
