Watch for snakes on the trail!

As more fall weather approaches, copperheads will be out on the concrete soaking up sun in the early evening hours and, as overnight temperatures decrease, there's a greater chance you may encounter one on Manhattan trails. While venomous, they’re not aggressive and seldom strike unless provoked.

Knowing what to do when you see a snake can keep both you AND the snake safe!

🐍 Snakes blend into their environment so watch where you step and where you put your hands. DO NOT stick your hands under rocks or ledges.

🐍 Never step over a snake on the trail - give the snake enough room to safely make their way off-trail on their own.

🐍 Your furry companion is curious by nature. Always keep them on a leash!

🐍 Remember snakes will leave you alone if you leave them alone!
