On April 18, 2024, Jewish Family Services attended a press conference for the six recipients of a grant for early childhood development support from Community Advocates Public Policy Institute and Milwaukee County Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) CYFS Division. This grant will broaden the capacity of our in-school work with children and families, and prepare teachers for years to come.
We thank County Executive David Crowley and DHHS Executive Director Shakita LaGrant-McClain for empowering JFS to make such a big impact in the community.

The Milwaukee County Commission on Aging represents all older adults in our country. At JFS, we provide services for seniors in Milwaukee, and we know how vital it is to have a voice in the community. It is important that we share our views when the opportunity affords itself. The only way to see change is to speak with the people who can make the change. Please come out and share, or respond online when this survey opens on April 1, 2024.

The Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University released an article today that does an excellent job describing what Jewish Family Services (JFS) strives to accomplish at our senior residences in Brown Deer. As a provider of both affordable housing and mental and social services, we are uniquely positioned to help older adults in the community to afford the dual burden of housing and care. Thank you for your support.

The Wisconsin Policy Forum recently published an article about Milwaukee's stakeholders investing in housing supports. From the article: "Milwaukee Countyโ€™s private-sector health care stakeholders increasingly are investing in strategies to help find and stabilize housing for the individuals they serve, and early assessments suggest these efforts are making a positive difference."

JFS is committed to providing safe, stable affordable housing not only at our Bradley Crossing and Deerwood residences, but also our newest affordable housing project, Woodale Crossing, which is breaking ground later this year. Our commitment as a nonprofit provider of mental health, social services and affordable housing goes beyond providing a safe physical space for our clients, and we create a collaborative system to positively impact the critical social determinants of health in the community.

As we come to the end of Jewish Disability Awareness and Inclusion Month, we're shining a light on Jewish Family Services, Inc. (JFS). In addition to the wide range of mental health and counseling services, social services, and case management programs, JFS housing provides safe and affordable housing to individuals. Today, the world commemorates International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This takes place on the anniversary of when Soviet troops liberated Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest concentration camp operated by the N***s, in 1975. It honors and remembers the tragedy of the Holocaust, and the millions of people who lost their lives at the hands of the N**i government.

Jewish Family Services currently serves around 140 Holocaust survivors in our community. Our Social Services Department offers case management options for individuals in the Jewish community who may need culturally sensitive supports and case management. Also, our clinic has developed advocacy services for people who are victims of hate crime, including anti-Semitism.
