Tricklebee Cafe Pay-what-you-can community cafe offering healthy meals, food service training,& spiritual nourishment
(296)

MISSION: Tricklebee Café is a pay-what-you-can community cafe that offers healthy meals, food-service training, and spiritual nourishment. VISION: Since 2016, Tricklebee Cafe has been a place for people in the Sherman Park area of Milwaukee to gather and enjoy delicious, nutritious, local, plant-based food. All items on the menu are pay-what-you-can, which allows neighbors who cannot afford to pay

much to pay little or to volunteer, and neighbors who can afford to pay more to do just that. We have a love for real food with simple ingredients, and we bring positivity to our neighborhood by striving to show hospitality to all. PHILOSOPHY: Tricklebee Cafe relies heavily on seasonal harvests from local growers to create its daily-changing menu. We recognize the importance of offering real food to all, especially in areas like ours where mostly heavily processed "food" is available. We seek to give food to the hungry, drink to the thirsty, and welcome to the stranger. The "trick’ll be" freeing ourselves up to follow where love is already at work: in people’s hearts, around the table, and where connection is genuine. Tricklebee Cafe is a member of the One World Everybody Eats (OWEE) Network, so we adhere to the following core values:

-Pay-what-you-can pricing.
-Patrons choose own portion size--This helps eliminate food waste & curb overeating.
-Patrons can volunteer in exchange for a meal--This provides a “hand up, not a hand out” opportunity. Properly trained volunteers can lead to future employment in the food service industry.
-Volunteers are used to the greatest extent possible--This is an important key to building community and sustainability. Volunteers can just be working for meals or because they want to support our efforts to curb hunger in our community.
-Paid staff earn a living wage.
-Community Table--We have larger tables where individuals and small groups can sit with others and make a larger group that can cross social, economic and other societal boundaries. Tricklebee Cafe is a ministry of the Moravian Church in America.

Community Training: Soil Health and Plant Nutrition with Jairo Restrepo

August 17-18, 2026
8:30am-5:00pm (Lunch provided)
Milwaukee Area, WI

Calling all growers, gardeners, farmers, community leaders, and food sovereignty warriors! We are gathering to create accessible space for our communities, especially Black, Native, Latinx, HMoob, and LGBTQ+ kin/growers/stewards/earthworkers in the Midwest, to engage with practical knowledges that root us in reciprocity with the earth. Join us for a two-day experiential workshop with the world renowned regenerative agriculture educator, scientist and engineer, Jairo Restrepo coming all the way from Colombia!

This workshop combines scientific principles with hands-on learning to engage participants in the foundational concepts of regenerative and organic agriculture. Through lectures, discussions, and practical demonstrations, participants will explore the vital relationship between soil health, plant nutrition, and the quality of the food we produce. The training will focus on restoring soil fertility and biological activity while providing farmers and gardeners with practical tools they can implement immediately.

Through hands-on instruction participants will learn how to produce their own organic fermented fertilizers (bokashi), prepare liquid biofertilizers, cultivate and reproduce beneficial soil microorganisms, and formulate mineral-based preparations for managing plant diseases and insect pests. Creating healthy, living soil, means more nourishing food, stronger connections to traditional practices, and farming in harmony with nature rather than against it.

Registration fee is sliding scale (this means pay what you can considering your financial situation and access to wealth and privilege):
One-day only: $13-$208
Complete two-day training: $13-$390
Content will be delivered in Spanish, interpreted to English and HMoob!
