Mission is making room for more.

In a recent Courier Texas article on why national retailers are betting big on the Rio Grande Valley, Mission EDC COO Belén Guerrero-Aguirre highlighted the momentum driving new investment in Mission:

“Over the last three years or so, we’ve seen an uptick in first-to-market retailers choosing Mission as their entry point into the Rio Grande Valley. When retailers see existing locations performing at some of the highest levels in their systems, it validates the strength of this market and gives other brands greater confidence to invest here.”

With new commercial developments like Shops at 495, Mission continues to build a market where businesses see opportunity and room to grow.

A Mission staple is getting a new pair of boots.

For decades, Mission Boot Shop has built its reputation on craftsmanship, quality and service. Through Mission EDC’s Downtown Assistance Program, the longtime local business received funding to invest in new machinery, replacing decades-old equipment and giving its team the tools to better serve customers for years to come.

When we invest in the businesses that have helped shape Downtown Mission, we’re helping local legacies move forward while keeping the character and craftsmanship that make our downtown unique.

The next wave of retail is taking shape in Mission.

Developed by Merit Commercial Real Estate, Shops at 495 represents a $27 million investment that will bring approximately 100,000 square feet of new retail space and national brands to SH 495 (Griffin Parkway) and Conway Avenue, one of Mission’s key commercial corridors.

With Starbucks, Fork to Fit and Wing Daddy’s already on site, the development is projected to create hundreds of jobs and generate an estimated $44 million in annual economic impact, according to UTRGV.

More investment. More opportunity. More reasons to choose Mission.

Six weeks of opportunity, experience and growth that will go far beyond one summer.

Through the inaugural Mission Ready Internship Program, 15 young people spent six weeks gaining real-world experience with local employers, developing professional skills and learning firsthand what it means to contribute in the workplace.

As our interns head back to school, they’re taking more than memories from their summer with them. They’re returning with new skills, meaningful connections and experience that has them more prepared than ever for the classroom, their future careers and the opportunities ahead.
