The 249th Army Band was honored to perform in today’s Memorial Day Parade in Grafton, West Virginia. Amongst us and the other parade participants were Governor Patrick Morrisey and the Adjutant General, Maj. General Jim Seward.

As one of the nation’s longest continuously running Memorial Day traditions—dating back to 1867 and recognized as West Virginia’s Official Memorial Day Parade—it was a privilege to help honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Today, the 249th Army Band Saxophone Quartet and Jazz Combo had the honor of performing at the 17th Annual River City Festival of the Arts in Rowlesburg, West Virginia.

This annual event serves as a vital cultural cornerstone for the Cheat River Valley region, and our musicians were proud to provide musical support in representation of the West Virginia Army National Guard.

The past drill was very productive and exciting. The 249th Army Band was evaluated on every aspect of how we operate as a unit. Showcasing all of our talented Music Performance Teams, Drill Band, Concert Band, logistics, operations and more.

CW4 Lightsey along with his team from the National Guard Bureau provided crucial feedback highlighting the strengths we have as a unit as well as areas of development that will help us be even more successful.

Thank you to Chief Lightsey as well as Brigadier General Holt for spending the time to ensure the success and future of the 249th Army Band.

Thank you to everyone who joined in person and online for our 2025 Holiday Concert!

Special thanks to SSG Robert Heath for assembling such a fantastic program and inspiring the band; to our commander, CW3 Jeremiah Bennett, for your leadership; to our civilian guest musicians for taking time out of your busy schedules and braving the weather; to SPC Matthew Wogan and SPC Daniel Rodriguez for putting together our first live stream flawlessly; and to all of the musicians in the band for a performance well done!

Tomorrow we will be performing our annual holiday concert that is open to the public at 2PM.

Weather conditions this evening are treacherous and may remain that way into the morning. Our hope is that roads will be safe to drive in time for the concert. Please do not travel if your commute is affected by the snow. Safety first, always!
