Moscow Charter School

Moscow Charter School What makes us different? Our policies and curriculum are based on what is best for children. We believe that creativity and problem solving can be taught.

MCS is a supportive educational community that promotes academic excellence through an integrated Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) focused curriculum. Parents are very involved and are critical to the progress of the school, contributing in every way from helping in the classroom to serving on the Board of Directors. Teachers are chosen because of their demonstrated effectiv

eness and are given the freedom to teach in their own way. Our classes are small, maxing out at 22 children per class, most classes have aides and tutors. There are more computers in the classroom than you might be accustomed to seeing, we have a 1:1 ratio of Chromebooks to students. Computers, the Internet and other technologies are integrated into most classroom activities. We believe that early enrichment enhances the intellectual development of a child. We want our students to develop "successful intelligence" as well as academic skills. We believe that it is possible to individualize education within a group setting by conducting an accurate assessment of each child, aligning the curriculum from grades K-8th, and placing students in classes based on achievement data. We have specialists providing instruction in art, theater, music, physical education, and movement. Each child is encouraged to work at her/his highest level of capability. This is accomplished through block scheduling, that allows the flexibility to move students between grade levels.

Our 8th graders have spent the last month of Homerooms creating posters and presentations for their "College and Career Readiness" program. They then presented their projects to our 5th and 6th graders.

We have some wonderfully ambitious students who are going to do amazing things with their lives!

PARENT ACTION TEAM ANNOUNCEMENT!

As many of you may already know, the time has come for me to step down as President of the Moscow Charter School Parent Action Team after nine wonderful years.

It has truly been an honor and a privilege to serve this incredible school community. Over the years, I have loved helping support our students, teachers, and school through fundraising and by helping provide events, activities, classroom materials, equipment, and supplies to make Moscow Charter School an even better place to learn and grow.

None of this would have been possible without the support of an amazing group of volunteers. While our group has often been small, the impact has been enormous. I am incredibly grateful for the many hours, ideas, hard work, laughter, conversations, and teamwork we have shared over the years. I will deeply miss running events together and working side by side to support our school community.

A very special thank you goes to Tiffany Corrao, Renate Van Zandwijk-Rowley, Melissa Snow, and Damian Balmforth, who have made up the majority of the permanent PAT members over the last several years. I am grateful for the wonderful group of amazing volunteers, though a small group, they have made a huge impact on all the things we have accomplished over the years, I have enjoyed working with them, and will miss our many discussions, laughs, jokes, planning and running events together, nothing would have been accomplished without them. You are all truly AMAZING, and I cannot thank you enough for your dedication, kindness, and commitment to our students and school.

Thank you as well to Mr. B for the wonderful collaboration and support of the PAT throughout the years. I have appreciated our many discussions and always knew we had your support and could count on your guidance and encouragement when needed. You will be greatly missed. I wish you all the best for your future endeavors.

To all the teachers, staff and secretaries I have worked with and supported over the years — thank you. It has been such a pleasure helping provide supplies, materials, and opportunities to enhance your classrooms and teaching. Your dedication to the students is inspiring, and I have genuinely enjoyed working with each of you.

Thank you, Hannah, for being such a joy to work with, you have helped us so much, and we are so grateful for your support of the PAT. Lastly, thank you to all the people who have helped with our events by volunteering their time for a good cause and for those who participated in our many events.

While change is upon us, I am very happy to announce that Tiffany Corrao will be taking over as Parent Action Team President effective today, and Renate Van Zandwijk-Rowley will serve as the new Treasurer. Together, they will make an excellent team, and I know the PAT will continue to do wonderful things for our school community. I also hope many new volunteers will join them in supporting the school moving forward. Many hands make light work.

Thank you all for your support, encouragement, and friendship over these past nine years. It has meant more to me than words can express. Moscow Charter School will always hold a very special place in my heart.

With gratitude,

Pernille Langenbach
