🌟 NEW EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: SHEYENNE FAIRCLOTH 🌟

Please join us in welcoming Sheyenne Faircloth to the Power of WE! Sheyenne joins McCullough Middle School as a 7th Grade ELA Teacher.

Sheyenne is a proud Colonial alumna who attended Wilbur Elementary, Gunning Bedford Middle School, and William Penn High School. Before joining Colonial, she worked as a Site Lead with the Summer Learning Collaborative, a nonprofit organization serving Colonial schools and other local communities.

Her own Colonial ELA teachers helped inspire her path into education, especially the women of color who showed her the power of stories and literacy to empower, inspire, and transform communities.

As she returns to Colonial as an educator, Sheyenne is most excited about mentoring young people and giving back to the community that helped shape her.

As we get ready for another school year, we asked Colonial staff to take us back to where their journeys in education began as a student

🌟 NEW EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: JESSICA GILBERT 🌟

Please join us in welcoming Jessica Gilbert to the Power of WE! Jessica joins Little Colonials Preschool as a Pre-K Special Education Teacher.

This year marks Jessica’s 16th year teaching preschool. She began her career in New York, where she grew up, and has spent the past 10 years teaching throughout Delaware. Every child, family, and classroom she has worked with has strengthened her passion for early childhood education.

For Jessica, one of the most special parts of teaching Pre-K is having the opportunity to be part of a child’s very first school experience. She is passionate about helping young learners build confidence, curiosity, independence, and a love of learning while also helping families feel welcomed and supported during this important milestone.

Jessica finds inspiration in the everyday moments — a child making a new friend, mastering a new skill, finding their voice, or realizing they can do something they once thought was impossible.

As she joins Colonial, Jessica is most excited to build meaningful relationships with students, families, and colleagues and create a classroom filled with laughter, exploration, kindness, and unforgettable memories.

Before you book the trip, schedule the dentist, plan the family getaway, or tell Grandma you’re coming to visit, take a peek at our 2026–2027 Vacation Planner!

We’ve rounded up the major school breaks and days off so you can plan ahead — and hopefully avoid pulling students out during important instructional days.

School mornings don’t have to feel like a race against the clock! ⏰🎒

We’re kicking off our 10 Ways to Get Back Into the School Routine with Tip #1: Reset Bedtime! A little adjustment now can make those first school mornings much easier.

Try moving bedtime and wake-up time earlier by 15–20 minutes every few days so everyone is rested, refreshed and ready to learn when school begins. 😴➡️😊

🌟 NEW EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: ILAAN GHADELENE 🌟

Please join us in welcoming Ilaan Ghadelene to the Power of WE! Ilaan joins William Penn High School as an Air Force Junior ROTC Instructor.

A Philadelphia native, Ilaan brings an extensive background in leadership, mentoring, training, and military service. He retired at the rank of Master Sergeant, where he served in a key leadership role supporting the 118th Attack Squadron mission, managing daily operations and serving as a lead advisor. His career also included support of a forward-deployed unit in Southwest Asia.

Throughout his career, Ilaan has served as a mentor, career advisor, trainer, and role model. Encouragement from his peers inspired him to continue that work in education and bring his leadership experience into the classroom.

As he joins Colonial, Ilaan is especially excited about the support he has already received from William Penn leadership and the opportunity to help grow and expand the JROTC program.

Please join us in welcoming Hannah Barbas to the Power of WE! Hannah will serve as an Elementary Teacher at Pleasantville Elementary School.

Hannah is a proud Colonial alumna who attended Pleasantville Elementary and Gunning Bedford Middle School. She recently graduated from the University of Delaware with both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education.

Hannah has always been passionate about supporting children as they learn and grow. She looks forward to creating a safe, welcoming classroom where every student feels supported and ready to succeed.
