The 166th AW is a C-130 airlift, and the only wing in the Delaware Air National Guard, founded Sept. 6, 1946 and located at the New Castle ANG Base, in New Castle, Del. We transitioned from the fighter era to the airlift era in 1962, and in the mid-1980s acquired our current fleet of Lockheed C-130H “Hercules” transport aircraft. Today, we are nearly 1,100 professional men and women dedicated to m

aintaining our core competencies in airlift, aeromedical evacuation, civil engineering and network warfare.

Last month, Lt. Col. Jaymes Ellers, commander of the 166th Civil Engineer Squadron, recognized Master Sgt. Louise Bazelak for more than 30 years of service and her contributions as first sergeant during an informal retirement ceremony.

During the ceremony, she received the Meritorious Service Medal, a placard on behalf of the 166th First Sergeant Council, and her official retirement orders.

Thank you for your leadership, dedication and lasting impact, Bazelak. On to the next chapter. 🇺🇸

Huge success at our recent National Rx Take Back Day! 🦅💪

The 166th Airlift Wing's Drug Demand Reduction Program (DDRP), the Drug Enforcement Administration - DEA, and our amazing community partners teamed up to safely collect and dispose of 44.5 lbs of unneeded medications. 💊🗑️

Thank you to the nearly 100 attendees who joined us for the drop-off and for engaging in crucial education on medication safety and drug awareness. A massive shoutout to all our agency partners who made this mission possible! 🤝 Together, we are keeping our community safe.

During last drill, Deputy Wing Commander Col. Jeremy Meartz and Wing Command Chief Todd Dugar, accompanied by the Wingman Day planning committee, presented the 166th Force Support Squadron and the 166th Civil Engineer Squadron with the winners’ trophy for the inaugural biannual 2025 Wingman Day competition, held Sept. 7.

Approximately 400 members of the 166th Airlift Wing attended and participated in a series of competitive activities designed to build camaraderie, teamwork and morale, while strengthening mental and physical resilience.
Congratulations to the winners and all who contributed to the event’s success. 💪✈️🏆

The 166th Airlift Wing, Delaware Air National Guard, will be conducting a mass training exercise Monday, April 27 thru Wednesday, April 29, 2026.

Members of the local community may notice out-of-the-ordinary movements of people or vehicles on base, hear occasional loud noises or witness other activity as part of the exercise scenarios. The public should know this activity is related to our controlled exercise.

This exercise will evaluate the 166th Airlift Wing’s Emergency Management, Antiterrorism, Force Protection Conditions, Fire and Emergency Services, Disaster Preparedness Plans and Public Health programs.

This is a planned training event by the 166th Airlift Wing, Delaware Air National Guard, at the New Castle Air National Guard Base.
