Partnering with Horses in Addressing Veterans Struggling with Gambling Disorder: An Alternative Intervention Experiential Workshop
Presented by: Kelly Garza, LSW, LCDC III-GAMB, OCPC, ICPS, EAGALA Certified and Rosemary Baughman, DSW, LCSW, CADC, CCS, EAP Advanced Certified.
Come and join us as we delve into the benefits of incorporating horses in clinical psychotherapeutic treatment.
This unique approach has been helping clients achieve their treatment goals engagingly and effectively.
In this workshop, you will learn how a co-facilitated treatment model that includes grounded interactions with horses can be used to help veteran military clients with problem gambling concerns.
Through interacting with horses, clients often feel more comfortable engaging in conversations and taking actionable steps towards their recovery while receiving nonjudgmental feedback from the animals.
The workshop is designed to provide basic information on how Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is provided, along with an experiential activity with our herd to enhance your understanding of the process.
As we learn through experience, this activity will help you better retain the information provided during the workshop.
Information on the topic of problem gambling, specific to the military/veteran population will be explored.
October 2, 2026 - Training will be held rain or shine
(Maximum 20 attendees per session)
Session 1: 10:00am – 12:00pm
Session 2: 1:00pm – 3:00pm
Bag Lunch provided by DCGP from 12:00pm – 1:00pm for all attendees.
