Incredible Focus . . . . Paramedic Tianni LePore works to prepare the back of the ambulance prior to a critical patient being loaded for transport. Due to the limited space and tight quarters in which NCC paramedics work with our BLS partners, it is critical to ensure each square inch is used efficiently. Paramedics have mere seconds to organize and prep prior to patient's being loaded for transport.

Paramedic LePore is a graduate of the 4th Paramedic academy and four-year veteran of the EMS Division assigned to Paramedic Station 4 (North Wilmington) on EMS Platoon 1. She is also heavily involved with our Community Outreach Team teaching many hands-only CPR programs and assisting with recruitment efforts.

Congratulations to NCC Paramedic Senior Corporal Christopher Rainey, his wife Kaci, and their entire family for being recognized by the Bananas Foster organization at Frawley Stadium during a Banana Ball game between the Loco Beach Coconuts and Texas Tailgaters in August of 2026. The Rainey family was recognized for their incredible dedication to fostering children and support of families involved with foster care and adoption.

Established in 2023, Bananas Foster is dedicated to Bringing Families Together by shining a light on those making a difference within the foster care community. By celebrating those making a difference in the foster care community, their aim is to create awareness and inspire people to get involved. We are honored to have such an incredible paramedic making a difference both at work and outside of the uniform. Congratulations Chris!

🚑 What We Carry Wednesday 🚑

This week’s featured equipment: Airtraq® Video Intubation System

When a patient is unable to breathe on their own, securing their airway is one of the most important things a paramedic can do.

The Airtraq® Video Intubation System helps our paramedics place a breathing tube into a patient’s airway with the assistance of a built-in camera, providing a clear view of the vocal cords during the procedure. This technology can improve first-attempt success and allows for quicker, more accurate airway management in critical situations.

From medical emergencies to traumatic injuries, the Airtraq is one of the advanced tools our paramedics carry to provide lifesaving care before patients reach the hospital.

Kudos to Paramedic Senior Corporal Michael E. Pietruczenia (FTO), Senior Corporal Keely S. Varchetto, and Paramedic Candidate Vincent S. Cardile for compliments they received from a patient’s family following a medical emergency on Thursday, June 18, 2026.

New Castle County Medic 3 along with BLS personnel from the Hockessin Fire Company, responded to a residence for a medical emergency in the Hockessin area. The patient’s family complimented the personnel who cared for their loved one and stated “your rapid response and care you provided saved (the patient’s) life”. They further commented “Your calm presence and expertise made a very frightening situation more manageable for my family”. The patient’s family wanted this crew to know their loved one made “a remarkable recovery” and wanted to pass along their “heartfelt gratitude”.

Paramedic Senior Corporals Pietruczenia, Varchetto, and Candidate Cardile are commended for the dedication and commitment to excellent clinical care during this medical emergency. Thanks for making a difference for this patient and their family.

"Thank You" to our fire service partners from Volunteer Hose Co. of Middletown. During a critical medical emergency in the Middletown area, both New Castle County Paramedics and the Middletown EMT were needed to treat and assess a patient during transport to a hospital. It is rare that multiple advanced practitioners are required during transport, but when the need arises, our system is designed for that need.

Our fire service partners transferred Medic 5's vehicle back to their fire house until the paramedics returned. However, their good deed did not stop there. The firefighters from Volunteer Hose Company took the time to wash the paramedic vehicle so it was shiny and sparkling clean when they returned. We could not thank our fire service partners enough their incredible partnership in our two-tiered system.
