In April and May, 2026, New Castle County EMS joined multiple police, fire, EMS and New Castle County 911 staff for a full day Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Active Assailant Integrated Response (AAIR) training certification program. The State of Delaware has adopted ALERRT as its standard of response to active assailant incidents. This program utilized a unified approach to response, mitigation, life-saving, and evacuation, during such incidents. These integrated training programs will continue through the end of 2026 at the Saint Peter’s Church complex in the City of New Castle. We thank all agencies in helping us work towards our goal of having 100% of our paramedic staff trained in Active Assailant Integrated Response by the end of 2028.

Training for the moments that matter most.

Mike Herbert brought Firefighter Down training to the Delaware Resuscitation Academy, giving first responders the opportunity to practice lifesaving rescue techniques in realistic, high-stress scenarios.

EMS Platoon 2 Wins 2026 "March Madness" Fitness Challenge for 2nd Straight Year!

The NCC*EMS Division held its annual "March Madness Fitness Challenge" competition between platoons. This month-long initiative to promote physical, emotional, and mental wellness, encouraged all paramedics to participate in any form of exercise, physical activity, or simply "getting outdoors". Points were gained by each platoon for each activity to include immediate family. During this challenge two 5K events were held at the Wilmington Riverfront to encourage platoons to spend time together earning points. Congratulations to EMS Platoon 2 for taking home the "March Madness" crown the second year in a row! Just one of the many ways NCC*EMS encourages physical and mental resiliency for the difficult profession our paramedics tackle every day.

On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, members of the EMS Division Senior Staff and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Survivor Reunion Committee traveled to Dover to attend the annual Kent County Department of Public Safety Survivor Reunion. It was incredibly important for NCC*EMS to show support to our Kent County partners as the Kent County Director of Public Safety, Chief John Tinger, was not only helping to coordinate the event, but was a sudden cardiac arrest survivor himself. We thank Kent County for the opportunity to attend and congratulate all of the award recipients.
