A human exposure (bite) from a stray cat occurred in the Wilmington area near Dennis Road and Utah Road on June 17. The cat was placed under a 10-day quarantine due to worsening symptoms and concern for rabies. On June 24, the Delaware Public Health Laboratory confirmed rabies positivity. The exposed individual has been notified and has started post-exposure prophylaxis. If you think you have been bitten, scratched, or come in contact with a stray cat in this area on or before June 17, contact the DPH Rabies Program at 302-744-4990. For more information on the DPH Rabies Program, visit https://dhss.delaware.gov/dph/dpc/rabies/.
