Congratulations to DOE CTE Ed Associate Dr. Hill-Shaner on your award!

Congratulations to our own Dr. Michael Hill-Shaner for earning the State CTE Distinguished Leadership Award from Advance CTE. This isn’t just an individual honor; it’s a clear example of what our strategic plan calls for in practice: elevating student voice, aligning pathways to real opportunity, and building systems that work for learners, not around them.

Dr. Hill-Shaner’s work shows what it looks like to move from idea to implementation. Engaging students as co-designers in Teacher Academy, Culinary & Hospitality, and career technical student organizations isn’t symbolic—it’s structural. It creates the conditions where students shape their own pathways, develop leadership, and see themselves in the future of Delaware’s workforce. That’s directly aligned to the state’s focus on career pathways, student-centered learning, and preparing every learner for success beyond graduation.

This reinforces a core belief in the plan: when learners have voice and agency, systems get better. Not just more inclusive—more effective.

At the end of the day, this recognition highlights what matters most: designing with students, not for them—and making that the standard across Delaware.

Congratulations to Odessa FFA on winning the Delaware Envirothon!

Odessa High School’s FFA and Agriscience team celebrated earning first place in the 2026 Delaware Envirothon Championship, held at Sussex Academy — marking their second consecutive win. 🌿

Now in its milestone 30th year, Envirothon is a statewide environmental education competition sponsored by DNREC. This year, nine high schools and one 4-H club fielded a record 23 teams that spent the school year preparing to test their knowledge of aquatic ecology, soils and land use, wildlife, forestry and the current environmental issue of nonpoint source pollution mitigation.

After more than three hours of testing, the Odessa team was crowned state champion and will represent Delaware at the National Conservation Foundation International Envirothon in Mississippi this July.

Congratulations to Delaware TSA on a successful 2026 State Leadership Conference!

Nearly 1,000 middle and high school students from more than 40 schools across Delaware came together at the University of Delaware to showcase their skills in STEM through over 1,800 contest entries across 66 competitive events. Students also explored future careers through sessions on artificial intelligence, clean energy, biomedical engineering, and more — while building leadership, collaboration, and communication skills along the way.

Congratulations to all of these talented students and good luck to those advancing to represent Delaware at the National TSA Conference this summer.

Congrats to Brian Johnson from Christina School District for this great opportunity with ACTE!

Leadership matters in Work-Based Learning.

That is why ACTE launched the Work-Based Learning Leadership Alliance — a yearlong initiative designed to develop the next generation of WBL leaders across the country.

The 2026 cohort will bring together practitioners from 10 states to collaborate on leadership development, mentorship, and capstone projects that produce practical resources for the WBL field.

Led by Kristy Volesky, Jan Jardine, and Jason Van Nus the Alliance begins at the ACTE Work-Based Learning Conference 2026 and continues through a year of collaborative learning and project development.

Congratulations to the 2026 cohort representing Iowa, North Dakota, California, Virginia, Delaware, Alabama, Georgia, New York, and Hawaii.

The future of work-based learning is in good hands. https://bit.ly/4lGa7sm
