Today, the UN Women Executive Board’s Second Regular Session was held at the UNHQ, continuing their work to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

As UN Women Executive Director Sima Bahous has put it, “where women’s participation is supported, outcomes improve — not only for women and girls, but for all of society in terms of peace, resilience, economic prosperity, sustainable development, and recovery capacity.” Gender equality must be embedded across all areas of policy and society, as advancing women’s rights benefits not only women and girls, but societies as a whole.

UN Women works worldwide towards this goal by turning commitments into concrete change, for example:
⚖️ Strengthening laws, policies and institutions to advance gender equality
💼 Advancing women’s leadership, political participation and economic empowerment
🛡️ Ending violence against women and girls
🕊️ Promoting women’s participation in peace, security and humanitarian action

Malta remains committed to working with UN Women to push for stronger progress on gender equality, thereby helping to build more inclusive, peaceful and sustainable societies, leaving no one behind.

On the International Day to Protect Education from Attack, we are highlighting the devastating impact of conflict on education and the urgent need to protect students, teachers and schools.

This year’s theme, “Can Education Survive Attack?”, highlights that protecting education is only possible when Member States uphold the Safe Schools Declaration and the UNESCO-endorsed Preventive Plan of Action to Protect Education from Attack.

Education must remain protected in times of conflict.

As the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly draws to a close, we look back at Malta's participation in the President of the General Assembly's Working Luncheon in honour of the Co-Chairs and Co-Facilitators of the intergovernmental processes of the 80th session.

🤝 Malta was pleased to contribute to these processes as Co-Facilitator of the review of ECOSOC and the HLPF, helping to advance important work on strengthening the UN's development architecture.

🌍 This work forms part of the broader work of the GA, and the shared effort to ensure that the Organisation remains effective, responsive and fit for purpose in addressing today's global challenges.

🇲🇹 Malta thanks H.E. Annalena Baerbock, President of the 80th session of the General Assembly, for hosting this gathering and remains committed to constructive multilateral engagement and to supporting a strong and effective United Nations for present and future generations.
