🇰🇿 On the occasion of the International Day against , the Permanent Mission of Kazakhstan to the United Nations took part in a series of events at 5UN Headquarters dedicated to advancing nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation and a world free of nuclear testing.
This year carries special significance as we mark three important milestones: 35 years since the closure of the Nuclear Test Site, 20 years since the signing of the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia, and 30 years of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT).
At the High-Level Meeting marking the 30th anniversary of the CTBT, Ambassador Kairat Umarov highlighted Kazakhstan’s historic contribution to the global nuclear disarmament agenda. On 29 August 1991, Kazakhstan closed the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site, turning a painful legacy of nuclear testing into a strong commitment to building a safer and more peaceful world.
Kazakhstan remains firmly committed to working with the United Nations, the The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization and the international community to advance nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation and the ultimate goal of a world free of nuclear weapons and nuclear tests.
