A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH has been issued from the National Weather Service. In Nebraska, this watch includes Cedar and Knox counties in Northeast Nebraska. Valid from April 13, 2026 at 4:39 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. This includes the cities of Niobrara and Verdigre in addition to Bloomfield, Coleridge, Creighton, Crofton, Hartington, Laurel, Randolph and Wausa.

The monthly meeting of the Niobrara fire department was held Monday night. Election of officers for 2026 also took place. The officers for 2026 are as follows:
Chief: Alex Sternberg
Assistant Chief: Shane Hrbek
2nd Assistant: Steve Hrbek
President: Alan Ruda
Vice President: Shane Bathke
Safety: Dustin Crosley
Training: Bradyn Tschirren
Secretary: Jacob Schaible
Treasurer: Bob Olson & Alan Ruda

In 2025, Niobrara Fire department responded to 49 calls, including public relation events and EMS assist.
