🏥✅ Third time’s the charm!

The Protecting Frontline Healthcare Workers Act is finally law! It took three sessions of carrying this legislation, but Governor Spanberger has signed my HB 229 — which prohibits dangerous weapons in hospitals.

Healthcare workers deserve to feel safe on the job. I’m thankful to everyone who advocated for this legislation and for Senator Angelia Williams Graves, who carried the same bill in the Senate!

Today was a historic day for Virginia!

I was proud to join my colleagues in the General Assembly and Governor of Virginia as she signed paid family and medical leave into law — making Virginia the first state in the South to do so!

No Virginian should have to choose between welcoming a newborn, caring for a sick loved one, or recovering from illness, and their paycheck. Under this new law, more than 3 million workers will have up to 12 weeks of paid leave when it matters most.

This law has been so many years in the making. Special thanks to all the workers and families who shared their stories to make it real.
