The North Platte Police Department is providing the following information regarding a federal investigation involving former North Platte Police Investigator John Deal.
The North Platte Police Department was made aware that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) served a search warrant on August 4, 2026, at the residence of Investigator John Deal as part of a federal criminal investigation. The FBI did not provide the Department with specific details regarding the nature or scope of the investigation. At the time of the Department’s notification, the search warrant and federal criminal complaint had been sealed by the federal court, limiting the information available to the Department.
Upon being notified of the investigation and search warrant, Deal was immediately placed on administrative leave.
On August 31, 2026, the North Platte Police Department was notified by the FBI that a federal criminal complaint had been filed and that Deal would be arrested pursuant to a federal arrest warrant. Following his arrest, Deal resigned from the North Platte Police Department.
The federal criminal complaint remained sealed until the afternoon of September 1, 2026, when the federal court unsealed the document. Prior to its unsealing, the Department had not been provided specific details regarding the allegations or the nature of the federal investigation. Upon the complaint being unsealed, the Department was able to review the allegations contained within the federal filing.
The North Platte Police Department cooperated with the FBI throughout the investigation and will continue to cooperate and provide assistance as requested. This FBI investigation is active and ongoing.
