Creating safer communities takes partnership, trust, and a shared commitment to prevention.

Last month, Alameda County Probation joined community partners and the Oakland Police Department at a Gun Buyback Event hosted by Thy Word Ministries in Oakland. The event provided community members with an opportunity to safely surrender unwanted fi****ms while connecting with local organizations committed to supporting community well-being.

Thanks to strong community participation, approximately 90 fi****ms were collected during the event. ACPD staff were also on site with the Mobile Probation Van, distributing hygiene kits and engaging with community members in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Events like these reflect the power of collaboration and the important role communities play in creating safer neighborhoods for everyone. We are grateful to our partners and community members who continue to invest in a safer, stronger Alameda County.

Supporting young people takes more than a single program or agency. It takes partnership, collaboration, and a shared commitment to prevention, opportunity, and long-term success.

Alameda County Probationโ€™s Resource Connection Network (RCN) recently gathered in person with Youth Service Centers and Community Program providers from across Alameda County to continue strengthening the collective work supporting system-involved and at-promise youth.

The meeting created space for providers to share updates, discuss challenges, and continue building collaborative strategies that help young people and families access meaningful support and resources throughout the county. The gathering helped strengthen relationships across agencies while building the trust and familiarity that make ongoing collaboration more effective and responsive.

Providers heard from the Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention Commission (JJDPC), whose work helps advocate for youth and promotes a juvenile justice system grounded in dignity, fairness, accountability, and community partnership.

Last month, during Second Chance Month, we had the opportunity to spotlight the work of ACPDโ€™s Community Advisory Board (CAB).

The CAB brings together community members, individuals with lived experience, advocates, and partners who help provide input and recommendations around reentry and Realignment efforts in Alameda County.

These conversations matter because real progress happens when communities are included in shaping the solutions that impact them most.

We appreciate every CAB member and partner continuing to dedicate their time, voice, and lived experience to strengthening opportunities, supporting successful reentry, and building safer, healthier communities together.

Third time, same powerful message: second chances matter. ๐Ÿ’™

Our 3rd Annual Second Chance Awards Ceremony was a special evening dedicated to recognizing the hard work, growth, and accomplishments of individuals who continue to push forward and create positive change in their lives. Family members, loved ones, and community supporters came together to celebrate each honoree and the journeys that brought them here.

Events like these remind us that rehabilitation, support, and opportunity can open doors to brighter futures. Thank you to everyone who attended, supported, and helped make this ceremony meaningful for so many.

The Positive Futures Fair at Tennyson High School was an incredible day of community and opportunity!

Students had the chance to connect with numerous community organizations offering free resource and support services. Local food trucks also came by for the students.

One of the biggest highlights of the event was our student raffle giveaway, where 14 iPads were awarded to lucky students!

Thank you to all of our community partners, vendors, volunteers, and everyone who came out to make this event such a success. Together, we continue creating positive opportunities and stronger connections for our youth and community. ๐Ÿ’™

New skills. New opportunities. Real-world experience. ๐Ÿšœ

Youth at Camp Wilmont Sweeney recently earned their forklift certification through a partnership with theTeamsterss Union, gaining hands-on training, workforce experience, and exposure to career opportunities beyond camp.

Programs like this are about more than learning a trade. Theyโ€™re about building confidence, creating connections, and helping young people recognize their potential and purpose.

Congratulations to every youth who put in the work to achieve this major accomplishment. The future is full of possibility, and weโ€™re proud to witness the growth happening along the way.

Join us in celebrating their achievement in the comments below. ๐Ÿ‘

Powerful voices. Proud families. A community coming together.

ACPD hosted our 4th Best Credible Messenger Contest at the Osorio Training Center, where our youth took the stage and truly showed up. Each performance reflected courage, growth, and the power of using your voice to inspire others.

We were proud to see so many families and supporters in attendance, cheering on the youth every step of the way. Participants were also recognized with school supplies and Amazon gift cards, small tokens to celebrate their hard work and dedication.

Thank you to our hosts and everyone who came out to support this event and uplift our youth.

If youโ€™re a local business looking to get involved in future events and support opportunities like this, weโ€™d love to connect. Letโ€™s continue building together.

Bringing the next generation to work and showing them what service looks like in action!

This yearโ€™s Take Your Kids to Work Day at the Alameda County Probation Department was filled with hands-on learning and unforgettable experiences. The day started at the Juvenile Justice Center, where youth toured the facility and stepped inside a courtroom, hearing directly from a judge and several attorneys about the justice system and their roles within it.

From there, the group headed to Camp Wilmont Sweeney, where the Alameda County Fire Department gave an exciting drone demonstration showing how this technology is used in real-life emergency response. The kids even got a chance to fly the drones themselves.

To wrap up the day, everyone returned to the JJC for some well-earned treats and time to reflect on all they experienced.

A big thank you to our partners and staff who helped make this day possible, and investing in our youth.

ACPD was proud to host the Bay Region PRCS Coalition, bringing together partners from 11 neighboring Bay Area counties for a day focused on alignment, shared resources, and strengthening our approach to Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS). With nearly 55 attendees in the room, the goal was clear: work together as one to better support the individuals and communities we serve.

We were honored to hear from Diane Cummins, former Special Advisor to Governor Jerry Brown, as well as ACPD Chief Brian Ford, who both spoke to the power of partnership and unified efforts in this work.
