The Juvenile Justice Center recognized Juneteenth with a celebration of culture, history, and community.

Poets, fraternity steppers, musicians, and community leaders shared their talents, experiences, and traditions with young people throughout the day. From interactive drumming to personal stories and reflections, the event created opportunities for creativity, conversation, and connection.

Young people also helped lead the program, sharing their perspectives and the inspiration behind the event T-shirts they designed.

Alameda County Probation Department is embracing an innovative approach to staff safety and crisis response.

Recently, world-renowned instructor Rener Gracie and the team from Gracie University provided SafeWrap training to ACPD staff, equipping them with restraint techniques designed to maximize safety and minimize injury.

Unlike traditional control methods, SafeWrap emphasizes communication, de-escalation, leverage, and team-based control, without using joint manipulation, pain compliance, strikes, or unnecessary force. This modern approach helps reduce the risk of injury for both staff and the individuals in our care.

Music, culture, technology, and community came together at the My City, Our Music Summit.

From powerful conversations on violence prevention and human trafficking awareness to discussions on youth empowerment. The summit brought together community leaders, artists, advocates, educators, and changemakers committed to building safer and healthier communities.

The Alameda County Probation Department is looking for people who want to do meaningful work with young people at a critical point in their lives.

Juvenile Institutional Officer Associates (JIOA) and Juvenile Institutional Officers (JIO) help create a safe, structured environment while supporting youth as they build skills, make better decisions, and work toward positive change.

Applications are accepted on a continuous basis. To be included in the next testing round, submit your application by July 31, 2025, at 5 p.m.

Graduation is a milestone worth celebrating.

This year, youth from Butler Academy achieved an important milestone, earning their high school diplomas and celebrating the next step in their educational journeys.

Among this year’s graduating class, two youth have expressed their intention to continue their education at UC Berkeley and UCLA. Their plans reflect what is possible when young people set their sights on academic excellence and remain committed to their goals.

Every graduate’s path will look different, but each diploma represents hard work, perseverance, and the determination to keep moving forward.

Congratulations to all of our Butler Academy graduates. We are proud of what you have accomplished and look forward to all that comes next.

Building strong communities takes strong partnerships.

Alameda County Probation Department staff joined the Berkeley Police Department and local partners at Coffee with a Cop to discuss housing stability, supportive services, and ways to better coordinate resources for people under supervision in the Berkeley area.

The conversation highlighted a shared goal: connecting people to the services and support they need while strengthening community safety through collaboration.

We appreciate the opportunity to build new relationships, learn from our partners, and continue working together to improve outcomes for the communities we serve.

Creating safer communities takes partnership, trust, and a shared commitment to prevention.

Last month, Alameda County Probation joined community partners and the Oakland Police Department at a Gun Buyback Event hosted by Thy Word Ministries in Oakland. The event provided community members with an opportunity to safely surrender unwanted fi****ms while connecting with local organizations committed to supporting community well-being.

Thanks to strong community participation, approximately 90 fi****ms were collected during the event. ACPD staff were also on site with the Mobile Probation Van, distributing hygiene kits and engaging with community members in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Events like these reflect the power of collaboration and the important role communities play in creating safer neighborhoods for everyone. We are grateful to our partners and community members who continue to invest in a safer, stronger Alameda County.

Supporting young people takes more than a single program or agency. It takes partnership, collaboration, and a shared commitment to prevention, opportunity, and long-term success.

Alameda County Probation’s Resource Connection Network (RCN) recently gathered in person with Youth Service Centers and Community Program providers from across Alameda County to continue strengthening the collective work supporting system-involved and at-promise youth.

The meeting created space for providers to share updates, discuss challenges, and continue building collaborative strategies that help young people and families access meaningful support and resources throughout the county. The gathering helped strengthen relationships across agencies while building the trust and familiarity that make ongoing collaboration more effective and responsive.

Providers heard from the Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention Commission (JJDPC), whose work helps advocate for youth and promotes a juvenile justice system grounded in dignity, fairness, accountability, and community partnership.
