Don’t pour fats, oils, and grease (FOG) down the drain.
FOG clogs pipes and is one of the leading causes of sewer overflows.
• Pour cooled FOG into an empty cardboard cereal box or other sturdy paper to-go box.
• Remove remaining FOG by scraping greasy pans and absorbing oil with a paper towel.
• Dispose of these items in your compost cart.

Check out some Alameda County Health Dept. tips for not spreading COVID-19 during Labor Day Weekend.

Tip 1: Birds of a feather should stick together! Hang out with members of your household. Explore a new trail, picnic at a beautiful park, enjoy the beach early in the day.

Tip 2: Take it outside, buddy! Outdoors is much safer than indoors. The risk of transmitting COVID-19 is higher indoors, especially in confined spaces where people may not be wearing face coverings or keeping their distance from others. So, if you’re going to socialize, do it outdoors wearing a mask & staying 6 ft. apart from people you don’t live with.

Tip 3: Wrap it up! Wear a cloth face covering when outside of your home, in public and around others.

Tip 4: Feel ill? Just chill…inside! If you’re feeling sick or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, stay home. You may think that cough or sniffle is just allergies, but it’s not worth the risk of infecting friends and loved ones.

Tip 5: Talk it out! If you choose to gather with people outside of your household, like members of your social bubble, discuss and agree on what protective measures they will have in place, such as plans for maintaining physical distancing, wearing masks as much as possible, and agreeing to hold each other accountable for the sake of group safety. Most of all, agree that invitees should not come if they feel ill in any way.

Tip 6: Avoid Crowds! Be flexible with your plans and move to a different location if you cannot easily keep at least 6 feet (or more than three steps) away from others.

Tip 7: Take prior precaution! Be extra cautious in the days BEFORE gathering with others. If you know you’re going to meet with people from outside your household, stay home as much as possible and limit public activities in the days before in order to reduce the chance of getting sick and infecting others at the gathering.

Be an active member of the community and participate in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP)! This program improves and maintains Oakland’s public buildings and spaces.

The Peralta Hacienda Park Historic Core Adobe Pavilion is an example of a CIP project. The project’s improvements bring to fruition three key features: a Pavilion, a Community Banquet Table and a Community Oven. Together these features provide a significant new community gathering space and enhance the interpretive performance of this significant historic site.

To get involved with the CIP, please visit https://bit.ly/2Eqtrcj or text “Hello” to 510-804-3948 and take a brief survey!

Oakland’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) uses feedback from the community to determine where to make City improvements.

The Frog Park Tot Lot was a product of the CIP. The park was expanded to add swings, seesaws, and other play features/structures. It was also renovated to replace the existing lawn with fresh grass.

Did you know that the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) listens to YOUR input when prioritizing where to make City improvements?

The Lakeside Green Street and Snow Park project was a part of the CIP process. This project is a 14-acre “complete street” and park expansion project that increases park lands around Lake Merritt and at Snow Park, improves water quality, calms traffic, and dramatically improves pedestrian and bicycle comfort and safety.

Help us with this year’s CIP process and take a survey to share your experiences. Visit https://www.oaklandca.gov/topics/capital-improvement-program or text “Hello” to 510-804-3948.

We want to hear about your experiences with the City to know where our Capital Improvement Program (CIP) can prioritize public building and space improvements.

Waterproofing Tassafaronga Gym was a CIP project last year. This project rehabilitated the building's envelope to stop water intrusions in the gym. It replaced the existing water damage in the indoor sports flooring to resume athletic programs at the facility.

When, how, and where Capital Improvement Projects happen depends on YOU!

The Dimond Park Lions Pool Renovation was a CIP project. Due to hillside soil movement at Lions Pool, the concrete deck around the pool uplifted, causing potential tripping hazards. The renovations were made to make the play structure safe to use!

Great Kick-OFF! Please mark your calendars for the virtual 150th Anniversary of the Lake Merritt Wildlife Refuge Celebration live-streamed on KTOP Channel 10. October 23rd 7-8 pm. Free community education celebration.
Aug 28: In celebration of the hard work, achievements and resilience of those who came before us, a diverse group of Bay Area musicians came together to create, “STAND UP.” We hope the song will serve as a rallying cry; inspiring people to work together to improve our communities, to speak out against racism and injustice, and to vote. Please help us spread the word by sharing the word.
Who ever approved Telegraph between 40th and 51st street becoming a one lane road each direction is an idiot. The Traffic now is ridiculous and you are going to cost businesses money because I and others won't be going over there any more. The Gentrification of Oakland is ridiculous....
Your mayor doesn't have a spine by allowing these rioters to destroy and remove our history
Reading the disturbing headlines about federal police kidnapping peaceful protestors in Portland and hearing about similar things potentially happening in Chicago and other cities across the country- what does the City of Oakland plan on doing to protect the rights of peaceful protestors?
The City of Oakland is hosting a Red Cross Blood drive on Tuesday August 28th from 10am to 3:30pm. All blood types are welcome and healthy donors are encouraged to schedule donation appointments. Please visit www.RedCrossBlood.org and use sponsor code: Oakland OR. All donors will also be tested for the COVID -19 Antibodies with results back to donors withing 7-10 days.
Mayor Libby Schaaf, please see my post regarding the Oakland Zoo. I've heard you speak many times and met you on several occasions. I've always thought you to be a caring and reasonable person. PLEASE allow the Oakland Zoo to re-open its doors!!! It would be absolutely criminal to force this amazing place to close its doors permanently and for its 440 inhabitants to be "disposed" of.
HOW CAN THE CITY OF OAKLAND ALLOW THE OAKLAND ZOO TO CLOSE ITS DOORS? This amazing home to 440 animals and a significant wildlife vet hospital, is a MAJOR animal conservation voice, and arguably an essential service for the preservation of its inhabitants and health of this community. It is also an outside facility that can easily be managed to conform to Covid safety measures. Oakland and Bay Area residents have experienced the evolution of this facility under the direction of the extraordinary Dr. Joel Parrott over decades. For those who aren't familiar with the Oakland Zoo or don't "believe" in zoos, no matter the quality of animal habitats, please be reminded that literally ALL of the 440 wild animals in residence were either rescued from an untenable situation that would prevent safely returning them to the wild, or born there. In addition to literally saving the lives of these animals, the zoo provides our children with the opportunity to SEE real wild animals that most of them will only see online and in books. Humans tend to value what they know. PLEASE ALLOW THIS ZOO TO REOPEN ITS DOORS AND THRIVE ONCE AGAIN! THERE IS NO DOWNSIDE TO OPENING AGAIN AND AN ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATING DOWNSIDE TO PERMANENT CLOSURE!!!!!!
When will meter parking and time limit parking be re-enforced?
So I hear that your city wants to remove police from the schools. I wish you well and pray there are no emergencies.
Is Oakland lifting the curfew tonight or not?
