Irwin County Fire Rescue Personnel Complete National Fire Academy Incident Safety Officer Training
Personnel from Irwin County Fire Rescue recently completed the National Fire Academy's Incident Safety Officer (ISO) course, a comprehensive two-day training program focused on enhancing safety and risk management at emergency incidents and planned events.
The 16-hour course was designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for fire and emergency services personnel who serve, or may serve, as Incident Safety Officers within the Incident Command System (ICS). Through scenario-based instruction and all-hazards preparedness training, participants gained valuable insight into identifying and mitigating risks while supporting safe and effective emergency operations.

- The Role of the Incident Safety Officer
- ISO Competencies and Responsibilities
- Incident Safety Investigations
- Incident Command System (ICS) Integration
- Health and Safety Officer Functions
- Risk Analysis and Risk Management
- ICS Forms and Documentation Requirements
- Operational Scene Safety Analysis
- ISO Response and Scene Monitoring
- Managing Incident Safety
- Debriefings and Post-Incident Analysis
- Terminating the ISO Role and Documentation Procedures
The training emphasized proactive safety measures, operational risk assessment, and leadership responsibilities that help protect emergency responders and the public during emergency incidents.

The knowledge gained through this course will directly benefit our firefighters and the community."
The Incident Safety Officer course is especially beneficial for personnel designated as department safety officers or those who may be assigned ISO responsibilities during emergency incidents or planned events.
