We are hiring an Adult Protective Services Caseworker for our Olney office! APS investigates abuse, neglect, and exploitation of individuals 18-59 with a disability, or anyone 60 and over. Our Olney office caseworkers make home visits for the surrounding 9 counties. SWAN understands the concerns community members have raised with the guided tours for our shelter in Olney. We wanted to reassure the community that the safety and confidentiality of our residents is our top priority. The purpose of the tours was to show the community how our shelter is set up with bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen area. This is different than the preconceived notion of most shelters consisting of one open area with bunk beds. Tours were conducted in common areas with one model bedroom. Over the last five years, SWAN has been able to update our kitchen, flooring, and apply fresh paint. Swan conducted tours at a previous anniversary celebration and decided to offer them again during our 45th anniversary and allow the community to see all of the changes. SWAN’s intent with in-person tours was to offer education on domestic violence and show the community the more home-like set up of our shelter.
