Reminder of our upcoming 9/11 Events!

On behalf of the City Of Oswego and the Oswego City Police Department, we invite the community to join us on Friday, September 11, 2026, as we come together to honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001. We encourage members of the public to participate in this meaningful day of remembrance.

🏃 6:30 AM – Sunrise Run & Silent Procession - Emergency Vehicles
Beginning at East Bridge Street and East 4th Street and proceeding to the Oswego Police Department.

Please join our Firefighters, Police Officers, local officials, and fellow community members as we pay tribute to the lives lost. We gather to remember their courage, their service, and their sacrifice—and to ensure that we never forget.

Congratulations, Chief Cady — Welcome, Chief Waters!

The Oswego Fire Department congratulates Oswego Police Chief Phil Cady on his retirement and thanks him for his years of dedicated service and leadership to the City of Oswego. Our departments work side by side every day, and we are grateful for Chief Cady’s partnership, professionalism, and commitment to keeping our community safe. We wish him and his family all the best as he begins this well-earned next chapter. We also congratulate and welcome Chief Waters as he takes on the leadership of the Oswego Police Department. We look forward to continuing the strong partnership between OPD and OFD and working together to serve the residents of Oswego. Congratulations to you both! 🌪️ National Preparedness Month - Tornado Safety

September is National Preparedness Month, and as part of the Safe Oswego Community Risk Reduction Initiative, the Oswego Fire Department is reminding residents that being prepared before severe weather strikes can help protect you and your family. Tornadoes can develop quickly. Take time now to know where you will go and what you will do if a warning is issued.

⚠️ If a Tornado Warning is issued:
• Seek shelter immediately in a basement or the lowest level of a sturdy building.
• If a basement is not available, go to a small interior room away from windows.
• Put as many walls as possible between you and the outdoors.
• Protect your head and neck from flying or falling debris.
• Continue monitoring emergency alerts and official weather information.

📱 Prepare now:
✔️ Enable emergency alerts on your phone.
✔️ Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
✔️ Identify the safest location in your home, workplace, or school.
✔️ Make sure everyone in your household knows the plan.
✔️ Keep basic emergency supplies readily available.

Know the difference:

🌪️ Tornado Watch: Be prepared—conditions are favorable for tornadoes.

🚨 Tornado Warning: Take action—a tornado has been detected or indicated. Seek shelter immediately.

The Safe Oswego Community Risk Reduction Initiative focuses on identifying risks before emergencies occur and giving our residents the information and resources they need to stay safe.

⚠️SEVERE WEATHER NOTIFICATION⚠️

The Oswego Fire Department is advising residents to remain weather aware this evening due to the potential for severe thunderstorms and rapidly changing weather conditions in our area. Based on the latest radar imagery, we are anticipating severe thunderstorms from the west to affect the City Of Oswego and surrounding areas between 7pm-10pm tonight.

Residents should take precautions now:

• Secure outdoor furniture and other loose objects.
• Keep phones and other devices charged.
• Have multiple ways to receive emergency weather warnings.
• Be prepared to move to a safe location if a warning is issued.
• Avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather.
• Never drive through flooded roadways.

If a Severe Thunderstorm Warning or Tornado Warning is issued for your location, take immediate action and seek appropriate shelter.

Please monitor the National Weather Service and local emergency notifications throughout the evening.

🚒Congratulations Firefighter / Paramedic Raymond Abbott!🚒

The Oswego Fire Department congratulates Firefighter / Paramedic Raymond Abbott on his retirement following 20 years of dedicated service to the City of Oswego and our community.

Ray is an excellent Firefighter / Paramedic, a mentor to many, and was calm and consistent under pressure. FF Abbott spent his entire career on D Shift, and worked his final tour today.

We thank Ray for his service to the Oswego Fire Department, his fellow Firefighters, and most importantly, the residents and visitors of the City of Oswego.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighter / Paramedic Raymond Abbott on 20 years of outstanding service!

Throughout the month of October, Oswego Firefighters will proudly wear special Down Syndrome Awareness shirts while on duty to help raise awareness, celebrate inclusion, and show our support for individuals with Down Syndrome and their families. This shirt also serves as a tribute to one of our favorite supporters, Roger Pullen. This ones for you, pal!
