🌤️RECOGNIZING AN OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP!🌦️

Earlier today, Oswego Fire Chief Paul Conzone presented Professor Scott Steiger and students from the SUNY Oswego Meteorology Program with a Certificate of Appreciation and challenge coins, recognizing their outstanding contributions to public safety and emergency preparedness in our community.

Through this valuable partnership, SUNY Oswego meteorology students have provided detailed weather forecasts, predictions, and analysis to assist the Oswego Fire Department with planning for major community events.

Accurate and timely weather information plays a critical role in public safety. From anticipating severe weather to making informed operational decisions, the information provided by these students helps our department better prepare, allocate resources, and protect our community.

Beyond the immediate benefits to public safety, this partnership provides students with an opportunity to apply their knowledge in real-world situations and see firsthand how meteorology influences emergency management and decision-making.

Chief Conzone expressed his appreciation, stating "Strong partnerships build stronger, safer communities. We are fortunate to have such a talented group of students and educators right here in Oswego and look forward to continuing this collaboration."

🚒EAST SIDE FIRE STATION REDEDICATION🚒

The Oswego Fire Department cordially invites the community to join us for a special ceremony as we officially rededicate the Edward A. Maxon East Side Fire Station by proudly placing his name on the front of the building, creating a permanent tribute to a beloved member who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our community.

On May 2, 1956, Edward A. Maxon, a 30-year veteran of the Oswego Fire Department, lost his life while battling a devastating fire on West First Street.

In 1984, Mayor Cahill, Chief Beauchene, and members of the Oswego Fire Department dedicated a permanent memorial to honor Maxon in front of the newly constructed Oswego Fire Department Headquarters. On July 23, 1984, the Common Council unanimously voted to name the new East Side Fire Station in Maxon's memory.

Now, 70 years after his passing, we are taking another meaningful step to ensure his legacy remains visible for generations to come. With the support of Mayor Robert Corradino and the members of the Common Council, the department will hold a short ceremony to unveil new signage for the Edward A. Maxon East Side Fire Station, formally recognizing the designation established more than three decades ago. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

We sincerely appreciate the Mayor and Common Council's support in helping preserve our department's history and ensuring that the sacrifices of our fallen firefighters are appropriately honored.

🚒 TEAMWORK IN ACTION: DIESEL FUEL SPILL RESPONSE

At approximately 9:20am today, the Oswego Fire Department responded to a significant diesel fuel spill in the area of West 1st and West Utica Street., near the Big M Supermarket.

With heavy rainfall threatening to carry fuel into nearby storm drains that discharge into the Oswego River, Firefighters quickly deployed absorbent materials, containment booms, and specialized drain covers to limit the spread of the fuel and protect local waterways.

Due to the extent of the spill, additional resources were requested from Oswego County Fire Services, while several City departments worked together to support containment, traffic control, and cleanup operations. This was a tremendous example of teamwork and interagency cooperation.

The Oswego Fire Department extends its appreciation to the City Of Oswego DPW, Police Department, Code Enforcement, Wastewater, the Oswego County Hazardous Materials Team, Oswego County 911 and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. Special recognition goes to Oswego Fire Department's B Shift for their quick response, leadership, coordination, and professionalism.

Incidents like this demonstrate the importance of preparedness, specialized equipment, and strong partnerships among our City departments and regional agencies. 👍

🚒 FIREFIGHTER HEALTH & WELLNESS: PREVENTION MATTERS! ❤️

The Oswego Fire Department is proud to partner with United Diagnostic Services, LLC to provide comprehensive preventive health screenings for our Firefighters.

Firefighting is a physically demanding profession that exposes our members to unique occupational health risks. Early detection, preventive care, and ongoing wellness initiatives are critical to protecting those who protect our community.

Through this important initiative, our Firefighters have access to health screenings designed to identify potential health concerns early and promote long-term health and well-being.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Mayor Corradino and the Common Council for their continued investment in the health and safety of our personnel.

Our Firefighters dedicate their careers to protecting the lives and property of others. Ensuring they have the resources to protect their own health is equally important. 🚒
