Oxnard Animal Safety Unit Our mission is to promote health, safety, and welfare of pets and people in Oxnard. We are also here to protect your health.

The primary purpose of Oxnard Animal Safety Unit is to provide a wide variety of State mandated and City services relating to animal safety and animal protection. We promote and protect public safety through education and animal law enforcement. Our officers patrol the streets for animals allowed to roam at large, whether they are lost, injured or abandoned, that may create a public nuisance by de

stroying property, and causing injuries to themselves and others. Rabies is a disease that can be transmitted by an animal's saliva or skunk spray and can be carried by any warm-blooded animals, including humans. Rabies is fatal once the symptoms appear. Ventura County is a rabies-endemic area. There are half-a-dozen cases in wildlife every year. The danger is amplified, but not limited to, the County's rural areas. Vaccinating and licensing your animals will assure the control of rabies. Oxnard Animal Safety Officers are here to provide 24 hour/7 days a week service.

Greetings, we have received reports of a black PitBull mix loose in the area of Victoria Ave and Gonzales Rd. We are working with Dog Day Search and Rescue to trap this dog since he will not let us approach. Please do not try to catch, chase or feed the dog, this will only make it harder for us to trap it. Any sightings or questions can be directed to us at 805-896-6538 call or text.

¡El sábado 22 de agosto es Clear the Shelters, nuestro evento de adopción más grande del año! Más de 250 animales cariñosos estarán esperando para convertirse en el nuevo miembro de tu familia. Nuestro refugio estará abierto para adopciones de 1 PM a 6 PM.

Aunque aceptamos personas sin cita, las citas para animales específicos tendrán prioridad y se pueden hacer en vcas.us/adopt de 9 AM a 10:30 AM. Si estás interesado en adoptar un animal en particular, ¡te recomendamos muchísimo hacer una cita!

Todos los animales se irán a casa esterilizados, vacunados, con microchip y tratamiento contra pulgas, además de una primera visita veterinaria gratis. Las personas que adopten también recibirán regalos especiales gracias a Hill’s Science Diet y la oficina del Asambleísta Bennett.

¡Ven a darle una familia que lo quiera a un animal que necesita un hogar en Clear the Shelters este sábado 22 de agosto de 2026!

In the state of California, relocating wildlife is illegal. We have been receiving an increased volume of calls regarding coyotes in Oxnard. As coyotes are wildlife, they are free to walk our streets.
We know that it can be frightening to see coyotes in your neighborhood. Many of our neighbors have pets who may be seen as prey to these animals - we understand the concern.

However, please do not call 9-1-1 when you see a coyote. As mentioned earlier, it would be illegal for Oxnard Animal Safety Unit Officers or Oxnard Police Officers to relocate them, and we strive to keep our phone lines open for emergencies.
