Mental Health Partnerships

Mental Health Partnerships Our Values
We value Hope, the belief that a better future is achievable. By fostering hope, we promote success and resilience.

Mental Health Partnerships was founded, and continues to thrive, on the basic principle that people with mental health conditions can and do recover because they have the resilience to direct their own journeys in overcoming significant adversity. Our Vision
Individuals challenged by mental health conditions are empowered to direct their recovery journeys, and family members are prepared to play supportive roles, all as members of informed and inclusive communities. Our Mission
To promote groundbreaking ideas and create opportunities for resilience and recovery by applying the knowledge learned from the people we support, employ, and engage in transformative partnerships. We value Self-Determination, the exercise of free will - to encourage the independent expression of ideas and control over one's own life. We value a Holistic Focus, which represents the interrelatedness of all human needs. By recognizing the connection among physical, mental and spiritual needs, we nurture growth and creativity. We value Support, the nonjudgmental sharing of knowledge, experience and assistance among peers and colleagues - as a basis for promoting personal and professional development and achievement. We value Cultural Awareness, understanding and honoring a person's deeply held values, beliefs and practices - as a foundation for building, enriching and complementary relationships. We value Personal Responsibility, that each of us is accountable for our actions, and that each of is responsible for pursuing his or her purpose in life - as vital for overcoming challenges and achieving personal and professional goals. We value Empowerment, the process of helping individuals increase their capacity to make choices and to transform those choices into desired outcomes - as necessary for helping individuals gain the self-confidence required for self-actualization and leadership. We value Respect, the unconditional regard for the inherent worth of all individuals - as necessary for developing, maintaining and enhancing effective personal and professional relationships. We value a Strengths-Based Perspective, which presumes that everyone has resilience and talents, and which acknowledge individuals' unique ideas and experiences. By focusing on strengths, we cultivate hope. We value Education and Learning, the lifelong pursuit of knowledge and experiences - for their own sake and for enhancing personal and professional development. Our work is guided by the following convictions
People with serious mental health conditions can and do recover. Recovery is different for each person, but is possible for all. Recovery occurs in the community and with connections to natural supports. Individuals affected by mental health conditions are endowed with the resilience required to overcome significant adversity. Creating an environment of hope is the first step for a successful recovery journey. The active involvement of people with mental health conditions and family members at all levels of planning and development is essential for the achievement of system transformation and successful outcomes. Children, youth, adults, family members and communities have the capacity for resilience and recovery. Successful organizations proactively include all employees and other stakeholders in organizational development, planning and decision-making.

Recovery is about the whole person.

At Mental Health Partnerships, that means listening to people, understanding what they need and meeting them where they are.

In the third installment of our four-part video series, hear how lived experience can provide a unique and credible foundation for helping others navigate challenges and find the support they need — and why listening first is so important to meeting people where they are.

Their stories reflect what peer-driven support is all about — seeing the person, not simply the challenge they are facing, and helping them move forward on their own path to recovery.

As we approach MHP’s Bell of Hope Celebration, 75 Years of Hope: Leading the Future of Recovery, these stories remind us what we are celebrating — and why this work matters.

Watch their stories and join us in supporting the people and programs that make recovery possible.

Last week, MHP’s Lydia Cooper and Bianca Cory attended the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging’s Clergy Interfaith Conference, “Holding Hope: Addressing Grief and Loss,” held September 24 at PCA’s Wallace Building on North Broad Street in Philadelphia.

The conference brought together faith and community leaders to explore the experiences of grief and loss among older adults and share resources to better support people as they navigate aging, health, and other challenges.

We’re grateful for opportunities like this to connect with community partners and help strengthen the network of support available to older adults throughout Philadelphia.

What if your lived experience could become a source of hope for someone else?

Certified Peer Specialists use their own lived experience with mental health or substance use challenges to help others navigate their recovery journeys. And as the value of peer support continues to grow, so does the need to prepare and support the next generation of peer specialists.

At Mental Health Partnerships, that means more than training. It means helping people turn lived experience into expertise — building skills, creating pathways to meaningful employment, and preparing people to make a difference in the lives of others.

As we look ahead to Bell of Hope and celebrate 75 years of creating hope, we're sharing the people and programs helping MHP lead the future of recovery.

At MHP, we are proud to celebrate employees who transform their lived experiences into hope for others. Today we are celebrating Amanda a CPS in our Peer Net Homeless Specialist program.
After struggling with drug use and experiencing homelessness, Amanda made the decision to become a CPS. Today, she has been in recovery for two and half years.
“I understand how our participants feel because I’ve been there. When I meet someone, I share my story and remind them that they don’t need to feel ashamed. Recovery happens one day at a time.”
“Becoming a CPS has given me hope and a reason to keep going. I never imagined I would come this far, and now I want to use everything I’ve experienced to help someone else.”
Everyday Amanda uses her own lived experience to help encourage others that recovery is possible. Employees like Amanda, who share their pain to help others, is what makes MHP special.

Nearly three years ago, Steve Z. and Ryan D. were matched through MHP’s Compeer Chester County program. Steve recently shared this update:

“Everything is great with Ryan. Last Saturday we attended a Penn State football game. There were 108,000 fans! Two years ago Ryan was unable to be in public places. He’s come a long way!”

That’s the power of connection. Through friendship and encouragement, Compeer helps people build meaningful relationships and become more connected to their communities.

Congratulations, Ryan — and thank you, Steve, for being there alongside him.

For 75 years, hope has been at the heart of Mental Health Partnerships.

Sometimes hope begins with something as simple — and as powerful — as having someone there to listen. Someone who understands. Someone who can help you see that a different tomorrow is possible.

In the first of our new video series, members of the MHP team share what hope means to them — and how they help make it possible every day.

This is what hope looks like at MHP.
