PWD Open House Spotlight: PWD SpokesDog

Did you know the Philadelphia Water Department has a SpokesDog? Her name is Willow and she’s been our shero for the past year helping to spread the message to Philly residents about scooping the p**p so it stays out of our water ways. During her reign she has joined us at several events to help spread this important message. You’ll have the opportunity to meet Willow one last time at our Open House this Saturday before she passes her cape over to another PWD furry friend who will be crowned PWD SpokesDog.

If you think your dog has what it takes to wear Willow’s cape, read more about the upcoming SpokesDog Competition on Saturday June 14: https://water.phila.gov/blog/spokesdog-2026/

Be sure to stop by this weekend to congratulate Willow on a job well done.

PWD Open House Spotlight: Employee Unit Displays

During the Open House you’ll get to meet some of the most amazing and dedicated employees that help keep the Philadelphia Water Department running everyday!

We are more than just water bills and water main breaks. We are teams of scientists and chemists, environmental engineers, semi-skilled laborers, service representatives, communications professionals, apprentices, and more!

Unit displays are a great way for the public to get to know the many teams that make up the department. You'll learn more about the work that we do and see mini exhibits from each unit. Most importantly you’ll get to meet our employees up close and personal and ask them questions about their work. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to engage with us.

PWD continues to celebrate ! Next up on our Employee Spotlights is Shiju Kuriakose, Water Utility Manager at Queen Lane Water Treatment Plant.

Speaking about his work with PWD, Shiju says, "My favorite thing about working in a water treatment plant is knowing that the work I do directly protects public health and keeps the community safe. There’s something incredibly rewarding about being part of the system that provides clean, reliable water every single day to the Philadelphia citizens. Working with a team that takes pride in doing things right makes the job even better."
