Today, workers came to City Hall with an important reminder as the World Cup begins. Philly’s hospitality industry cannot run without the labor of members.

Workers at three Center City hotels have settled contracts with raises to $30/hr by January 2028, fair workload reductions, and more. Last week, UNITE HERE announced a strike deadline of June 12, 2026 at any Center City hotel that is still below the new standard.

“If we have to, we are prepared to strike all the way through the World Cup, all the way through the 4th of July. We want this summer to be one for the history books. But its success will not be on the backs of hotel workers,” -Maciah Magloughlin, Wyndham Historic District restaurant server.

Today I stand in solidarity with the Carpenters Union of !

Developers are pouring billions of dollars into new construction across Philadelphia—but too often they leave our communities with unsafe, poorly-built housing, flooding basements, leaking ceilings, and treating our neighborhoods like an ATM.

We Philadelphians live here, work here, and raise our families here. We know that when developers cut corners on workers and construction, tenants and communities pay the price.

“Pride is about free expression of identity. Pride celebrations are a political protest specifically against the violence, fear, and intimidation that have been used against q***r people. I am disturbed by the actions of the Philadelphia Police Department in the Gayborhood that took place on Sunday. The lack of City preparation is particularly disturbing. The Administration and Police Department must provide answers to Philadelphia’s q***r community about how this could possibly happen to begin with. The current explanations are unacceptable.

“I also want to address the use of masks to shield the identity of these officers. As part of my ICE Out package, I had direct conversations with the Police Department about masking policies. I was told their dress code policy has specific language banning masks. It was also not lost on me that the most disturbing images from Sunday showed primarily Black Philadelphians once again being over policed. I will demand answers about what happened here.

“Queer leaders, particularly Black and brown q***r leaders in Philadelphia, have led efforts for social change in this city for decades. Philadelphia is more free, more vibrant, and more fair because of their work - specifically through events like Pride that center community building. That’s why we need more transparency and accountability for this deeply harmful incident.”

Presented in partnership with Philadelphia City Council and the office of Council President Kenyatta Johnson, this photography exhibition celebrates Philadelphia’s diverse cultural heritage and immigrant communities through the theme “e pluribus unum” — out of many, one.

This event is free and open to the public! The visitor entrance is at the North East Corner.

Today I introduced a resolution honoring three outstanding individuals who are driving the continued
success of Philadelphia’s nationally-recognized Eviction Diversion Program: Leo Elliot of Philadelphia
Legal Assistance and Susan Layne and Susan Geist Giacomini of CORA Services / Good Shepherd
Mediation.

Each of them has gone above and beyond to meet the needs of thousands of tenants and
landlords who participate in the program. They brought that same care and commitment to developing
the EDP Portal, a single digital system that integrates the program’s many pathways and partners so
people can get everything they need in one place.

I am extremely pleased to see the Eviction Diversion
