Last week, leaders from impactful organizations across our city gathered at City Hall for the Mayor’s Office of Black Male Engagement Mentorship Roundtable.
The mission is clear: build a stronger network of Black male mentors and work toward the goal of 1,000 Black male mentors engaged in our communities.
This convening brought together organizations committed to creating meaningful mentorship opportunities, strengthening connections, and investing in the growth and future of Black boys and young men.
The work is underway. The partnerships are growing. And the impact will be felt for generations.

The African American Male Wellness Agency (AAMWA) hosts the annual Black Men’s Wellness Day in Philadelphia, bringing our community together around health, wellness, prevention, fitness, and fellowship.

The City of Philadelphia, in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Black Male Engagement and the Mayor’s Commission on African American Males, is bringing organizations together to build something bigger than any one program.

We’re building a citywide mentoring ecosystem — one that connects 1,000 Black men and boys with mentors who reflect their potential, their possibility, and what they can become.

From reentry support, to college-to-high-school mentoring, peer leadership, and professional mentorship from business leaders, there is powerful work already happening.

Now, it’s time to connect it, strengthen it, and move it forward together.

We’re inviting organizations committed to mentorship to join us for a conversation about what’s working, where the gaps are, and how we can build a stronger network of support across the city.

Because no young Black man should have to walk his path alone.

Join us. Bring your experience. Bring your ideas. Bring your commitment to the work.

Still reflecting on Saturday.
A heartfelt thank you to every panelist, moderator, volunteer, partner, and every person who showed up and made the State of Opportunity for African American Males a powerful day of connection, truth, and possibility.

One of the best parts was seeing so many brothers, sisters, leaders, and partners I haven’t seen in a while — still in the fight, still doing the work, and still committed to creating greater opportunities for Black men and boys every single day.

A special shoutout to Dr. Maurice Baynard, Chair of the Mayor’s Commission on African American Males — congratulations on a job well done. Your leadership and commitment continue to move this work forward.
And a major thank you to our out-of-town guests who spent the day with us and brought their perspectives, experiences, and energy to Philadelphia:
