What does opportunity mean to you?
🎥 In this powerful video, Black men share what opportunity looks like to them—and the pathways that can turn possibility into progress.

From Gateway to Success and the Division of Re-Entry, to CCME and community college pathways, employment opportunities, Mayors’ Internship Programs, and entrepreneurship, opportunity takes many forms.

A special shoutout to Jennifer Hall for coordinating this important effort and helping bring these voices, resources, and opportunities together. 👏🏾

This is what a State of Opportunity for African American males can look like: opening doors, creating pathways, and connecting people to opportunities to learn, work, lead, and build.

▶️ Watch the video. Hear their voices. See what opportunity means to them.

Then tell us: What does opportunity look like for you?

Still reflecting on Saturday.
A heartfelt thank you to every panelist, moderator, volunteer, partner, and every person who showed up and made the State of Opportunity for African American Males a powerful day of connection, truth, and possibility.

One of the best parts was seeing so many brothers, sisters, leaders, and partners I haven’t seen in a while — still in the fight, still doing the work, and still committed to creating greater opportunities for Black men and boys every single day.

A special shoutout to Dr. Maurice Baynard, Chair of the Mayor’s Commission on African American Males — congratulations on a job well done. Your leadership and commitment continue to move this work forward.
And a major thank you to our out-of-town guests who spent the day with us and brought their perspectives, experiences, and energy to Philadelphia:

Dr. Steven Chambers, Executive Director, NYC Young Men’s Initiative

Frank Farrow, Executive Director, Mayor’s Office of Black Male Advancement, Boston

Dr. Frame, CEO, Black Men Can
Thank you for traveling to Philly and standing with us in this work. The work may look different from city to city, but the mission is connected: creating pathways, expanding opportunity, and making sure Black men and boys have every chance to thrive.

And to Mayor Cherelle Parker — thank you for delivering such a heartfelt and powerful address to Black men and allies. Your words reminded us that this work matters and that our city has a responsibility to not only acknowledge the challenges, but to invest in the possibilities.
To the entire team — teamwork makes the dream work.

This wasn’t just an event. It was a room full of people committed to the work.
The State of Opportunity is not just a conversation. It’s a call to action.
And we’re just getting started.
