PreservePhoenix Protecting the past + educating the present + innovating the future

Preserve Phoenix is the only Historic Preservation Advocacy organization for the 5th largest city in America. As a 501 (c)3 organization, our mission is to preserve and protect the city's historic buildings, neighborhoods, and districts through participating in conversations within city and preservation-related groups, writing letters and position statements, educating policymakers and regularly sharing the importance of preserving the historic remnants of our great city.

Neighbors and friends of the Arizona State Fair in Phoenix have an opportunity to meet the fair’s new Director, Dale Adams, and hear about his vision for the future of the fairgrounds.

Dale brings new energy and a fresh perspective to the Arizona Exposition and State Fair. His plans include more concerts and events, improvements to the overall quality of the venue, attention to the condition of the fairgrounds’ historic buildings, and potentially recurring sporting events.

Preservation advocates have been in regular communication with fair staff about ways we can work together to support and preserve the fairgrounds’ historic resources. This meeting is an important opportunity to continue that conversation – and for surrounding neighborhoods to have a voice as plans for the future take shape.

Dale also welcomes questions and discussion about how future events and activities may affect the neighborhoods surrounding the fairgrounds. This is a chance to build a mutually beneficial relationship from the ground up.

📍 Meeting Location: Party Gras Building, far southwest corner of the fairgrounds
🚪 Entrance: Enter through the 19th Avenue gate at Monte Vista
📅 Saturday, August 22, 2026, 10 a.m.
👉 Please RSVP if you plan to attend: https://bit.ly/46cnxVW

If you live near the fairgrounds – or care about its future – please consider attending and bringing a neighbor or friend. A strong neighborhood presence can help ensure that preservation, community quality of life, and the fairgrounds’ future are part of the conversation from the beginning.

What makes a building iconic? Grab your (free) ticket now to what will be a lively discussion about the wonderful architecture in our desert city.

Whether or not you’re heading back to school this month, there’s an opportunity to join The Show's Mark Brodie and learn a few things about our surroundings.

Pack your drafting pads and head to Changing Hands in Tempe on Aug. 30 for our second installment of (The) Show & Tell. Brodie will moderate a panel discussion called Designing Phoenix with Mike Hardesty, Taz Khatri and Darren Petrucci, locals from the architecture/design/preservation/real estate world.

On the syllabus are residential and commercial buildings — old and new — and what makes them unique to our desert home.

Less than two weeks until our Preservation on the Rocks event - meet some of our board members and have some fun bowling in a wonderful mid century bowling alley! Will we see you there?

Join us for a Preservation Happy Hour!

Whether you are an active preservationist, looking to get involved, or just want to grab a drink with us, this event is for you.

Welcome to the Preserve PHX happy hour: Preservation on the Rocks. With b**r in hand, let’s dive into what historic preservation means to us and how we can better support preservation efforts in our city and communities. This is a casual happy hour with no formal agenda, so come as you are, ask questions, meet our team, and let’s preserve Phoenix together.

For this edition of Preservation on the Rocks, we will be celebrating a major victory for our community: the preservation of the historic Louis-Emerson House.

We are always looking for ways to support local businesses in historic places which is why we are excited to host this gathering at the mid-century modern, Let It Roll Bowl! Preserve Phoenix has reserved lanes for those who wish to bowl. All guests are responsible for their own shoe rentals and drink purchases.

Open to the public. RSVPs are appreciated. Shoot us an email at [email protected] to let us know you’ll be there!

One of our board members, Mike Hardesty, will be part of this discussion around what makes a building iconic. Not to be missed!

In our second edition of (The) Show & Tell, we’re hosting a panel discussion on Sunday. Aug. 30, 2026, with three locals from the architecture/design/preservation/real estate world to talk about residential and commercial buildings — and ask what makes them unique to our desert home. Mark Brodie will moderate.

According to U.S. census data, the population in this state has grown dramatically in the last 30 years — from 3,665,228 in 1990 to 7,151,502 in 2020.

You may not need the census to illustrate the city’s growth if you’ve taken a Valley freeway or house hunted in the last year. Just like the Mexican fence post cactus, Phoenix is on track to continue growing — and those who plan for the city’s growth will be tasked to design for the future.

Architects, city planners and visionaries from the past envisioned a future city and created houses, office towers and cake-like castles that are iconic to Phoenix — or are they?

Sign up to attend the free event co-presented by KJZZ and Changing Hands Bookstore.
