Applications are open for 2026 GEDTF grants.

The Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund supports community-led projects across Allegheny County, from infrastructure and affordable housing to business growth and cultural investments. Last year, nearly $11 million went to 92 projects countywide.

Municipalities, authorities, COGs, nonprofits, and businesses are all eligible to apply. The window closes August 14.

Allegheny County was proud to support this and the first agency to commit, investing $2.4 million in Community Development Block Grant funds to help bring this project to life.

As Office of the Allegheny County Executive put it, "Housing stability is economic mobility. Housing stability is family stability. Housing stability creates the conditions for people to succeed."

Since January 2024, Allegheny County has invested more than $47 million in housing initiatives, helping create 846 new units, preserve 145 homes, assist 56 first-time homebuyers, and support more than 2,100 households across our communities.

June is National Homeownership Month, a time to recognize what owning a home means for families and the communities they build.

Through Allegheny County Economic Development, we run five programs that meet residents at every stage:

▪️ Buy your first home. 1st Home Allegheny offers up to $45,000 in forgivable down payment and closing cost help for income-qualified first-time buyers. Renewed with $3 million and expanding in 2026.

▪️ Test and remove lead. Roughly 75% of county homes predate the 1978 lead paint ban. Lead-Safe Homes offers free testing and certified removal for homeowners, renters, and landlords.

▪️ Repair at 0% interest. The Home Improvement Loan Program offers low-interest and 0% loans for income-eligible owner-occupants: roofs, furnaces, plumbing, electrical, windows, and accessibility needs.

▪️ Facing foreclosure. Save Your Home connects you to real help before it is too late. The earlier, the better.

▪️ Revive vacant property. Vacant Property Recovery Program helps you acquire and restore empty property, turning overlooked spaces back into homes.

From buying to repairing to staying, the County has a program for every step.

Building the future economy requires coordination, partnership, and long-term investment.

On June 4, the ACT NOW event at the Energy Innovation Center brought together regional leaders to discuss how Allegheny County can strengthen clean technology, advanced manufacturing, workforce development, and regional competitiveness.

“Allegheny County already has the talent, the institutions, the workforces, the industrial foundation needed to compete in these industries.”

On June 4 at the Energy Innovation Center, Allegheny County signed ACT NOW, the Advancing Clean Technology for Neighborhood and Next-Generation Opportunity and Workforce executive order. The goal: make our region a national leader in clean technology and advanced manufacturing, with opportunity rooted in the people who live here.

ACT NOW creates a Strategic Action Team uniting business, labor, universities, investors, and philanthropy.

The foundation is already here. Carnegie Mellon’s Costa Samaras pointed to our leading edge in robotics, AI, and manufacturing.

United Steelworkers’ Bernie Hall called this the most skilled industrial and manufacturing workforce in the country.

Chris DeCardy spoke to investing in young people so the next generation can build it.

And SeaLion Energy founder Reeja Jayan named what makes this region different: everybody here wants to open doors and help you.

This is how we carry the momentum forward, from a single signing to a sustained effort that builds an economy that is globally competitive, environmentally resilient, and rooted in opportunity right here at home.

Today is World Human Milk Donation Day, and we’re spotlighting Mid-Atlantic Mothers’ Milk Bank, a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit doing quietly heroic work across our region.

For nearly a decade, their team has provided pasteurized donor milk to the tiniest, most medically fragile babies across PA, WV, NJ, MD, and DE. In 2024 alone, they distributed more than 430,000 ounces to NICUs, birth centers, and outpatient families.

The Milk Bank recently celebrated its 10th birthday with a groundbreaking on a new home in Bellevue, opening the door to more capacity, deeper research partnerships, and more babies served.

Allegheny County Economic Development is honored to support their mission through our Gaming Economic Development and Tourism Fund and Local Share Account (LSA) programs.

To the donors, lab staff, medical directors, and families who turn loss or abundance into a lifeline for someone else’s child, thank you.

ACED joined to dig into what’s next for one of Pittsburgh’s favorite places. President and CEO Andrew Masich was a delight, and his energy is a perfect reflection of the museum itself. One of the many lights in our region.

A 91,700 sq. ft expansion is coming, designed to connect the Cultural District and Strip District, grow attendance by 30% (500K+ visitors a year), and create space for world-class civics and heritage education.

We’re incredibly proud of the Senator John Heinz History Center, named the No. 1 history museum in America for the third year in a row by USA Today’s Annual Readers’ Choice Awards.

Congratulations to Andy and the entire team on this well-deserved honor and their upcoming expansion.

Walking into Radiant Hall’s Studio 54 inspired launch, |R|4, felt like walking into another world.

Disco balls spinning on the third floor. Artists and musicians bringing 7th Avenue to life in a way that reminded you exactly what a downtown corridor can be.

A trail of pink coins led you a few steps away to a former bank at the corner of Smithfield + Seventh to preview of group exhibition ‘overdraft.’ Featuring more than 10 local artist, the Opening Reception is happening May 29th.

This is what our Main Streets is about.

It’s more than just storefronts. It’s more than just focusing on foot traffic numbers. It’s about creating the conditions for arts and culture to thrive, and watching what happens when a community shows up for it.

Through our Main Streets Allegheny Event and Activation Grant, we’re proud to support Radiant Hall’s Downtown Artist Project Space at 308 7th Avenue, Downtown Pittsburgh.

Rotating exhibitions, artist-led workshops, pop-up retail, and cultural programming are now activating one of the most visible storefronts downtown, drawing people in and supporting the businesses around it.

And every artist involved is being compensated fairly. Radiant Hall is W.A.G.E. certified, paying creatives is not just a talking point.

This is how you invest in communities.

You invest in the people and the creativity that make it worth showing up for.
