We’re seeking bold new ideas to connect young people with the careers shaping Southwestern Pennsylvania’s future.

The Richard King Mellon Foundation, the national Catalyze Challenge and Partner4Work are launching Catalyze Pittsburgh—a $1.5 million regional funding challenge supporting innovative, early-stage career-connected learning initiatives for young people ages 11–18.

Eligible organizations must serve youth in one or more of the following counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Washington, and Westmoreland.

The first application period will run from September 22 through October 30, 2026.

Yesterday, we held the 2026 press conference at New Century Careers and heard from County Executive , , Learn & Earn Chair Debra Caplan, former participant Leon Wade, President & CEO Neil Ashbaugh, and Partner4Work CEO Rob Cherry about the impact and opportunities offered through the program.
 
This summer, young people will step into real workplaces across a wide range of industries, from corporate offices to advanced manufacturing and emerging tech, gaining experiences that can shape how they see their future.
 
Allegheny County youth ages 14–23 are encouraged to apply today.
