Please join us in congratulating Nate Kinney on his promotion to lieutenant, effective today. Lieutenant Kinney joined the department in April 2019. He was most recently assigned to Engine 5, Platoon 1. He will be temporarily assigned to the Pool on Platoon 1.

Congratulations Lieutenant Kinney on this well-deserved promotion and thank you for your continued hard work and dedication to the City of Portland, Maine.

Today marks the final shift for Lieutenant Todd Zsiga, who tomorrow morning will officially retire from the Portland Fire Department with over 28 years of service to the City of Portland, Maine.

Lieutenant/Paramedic Zsiga joined the department in April 1998. He was promoted to lieutenant in March 2014. He will be spending his final shift on "The Rock," where he has been assigned for over 8 years now.

Lieutenant Zsiga will continue his career in the fire service as the new chief for the Kennebunkport Fire Department.

Congratulations Lieutenant Zsiga and thank you for your dedication, hard work and service to the department and the city of Portland.

Five of the 12 people who were injured in the fire and explosion at Robbins Lumber in Searsmont were still being treated at Maine Medical Center in Portland as of Tuesday. Behind the scenes, the Portland Firefighters Children's Burn Foundation is assisting their families by providing them with meals and housing so their loved ones can stay close during their recovery in the hospital. Please join us in congratulating May's Employee of the Month, Captain Karlton Jones. Captain Jones joined the department in August 2012, was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in November 2020 and captain in March of last year.

Captain Jones has spent the last year assigned to Peak's Island and was recently reassigned to the mainland to Central as the Captain of Engine 5.

Congratulations Captain Jones and thank you for your hard work and continued dedication to the department and the City of Portland, Maine .

Terrible news out of Boston this morning. Rescue 2 firefighter Robert Kilduff Jr died in the line of duty last night at a fire. Our thoughts go out to Boston Firefighters Local 718 IAFF and all of the Boston Fire Department family. Rest easy brother Kilduff.

We remember Clarence A. Johnson, who on this day in 1903 died in the line of duty. Hoseman Johnson joined the department as a Callman in December 1889 with Engine 3. On April 26, 1903 he responded to Box 3-64 for a fire at the Holyoke Wharf. Callman Johnson suffered serious burns while escaping a flashover and subsequently died from his injuries 27 days later. He was 47 years old.

For his supreme sacrifice he is remembered, and in the dedication and courage of all our active and retired members, and all firefighters past and present, his spirit lives on.

Last week the department put into service the new MedCu 1, a 2026 Ford F550 Braun Chief XL Type I Ambulance, replacing the existing MC1, a 2021 Ford E450 Braun Chief XL Type III.

The new MedCu 1 is stationed with Ladder 1 at Munjoy Hill Fire Station and has been busy serving the City of Portland, Maine since going into service last Monday.

We remember Captain James C. Kent, who on this day in 1921 died in the line of duty. Captain Kent was appointed a permanent member on the department as a driver for Engine 5 in January 1899 and was promoted to Captain in 1910 initially assigned to Peak's Hose Co. 1. He was transferred to the mainland to command Engine 6 in 1920. Captain Kent died from injuries suffered while fighting a General Alarm fire at Deering High School on Stevens Ave when a section of the structure's roof and wall collapsed. He was 60 years old.

For his supreme sacrifice he is remembered, and in the dedication and courage of all our active and retired members, and all firefighters past and present, his spirit lives on.
