Happy EMS week! We are so thankful for all our providers across the county, state, and country! This is a thankless job at times and it is truly a calling! Don’t ever forget why you came into this field … to be there for someone on their worst day… to be calm in the chaos… to care for others!

Governor Mike Braun has officially proclaimed this week as EMS Week in Indiana, honoring the dedication, compassion and professionalism of EMS providers across the state. From large cities to rural communities, EMS professionals are there when Hoosiers need them most.

Throughout the week, we will be sharing stories that highlight the incredible people behind Indiana EMS. Read their stories and learn more at emsweek.in.gov.

Jay County EMS/Training institute had a trauma skills day this past weekend for emt students and first responders to work on skills. It takes multiple providers/volunteers to help with skills stations and we could not do it without them. Thanks to everyone that participated.
Also, thank you to Lutheran Air for giving the students a tour of the helicopter and information on how we can work with them on critical calls.

Jay County EMS/Training Institute has been busy training new EMT’s and doing continuing education for employees/local first responders. These skill days help us work on our skills and teach the future technicians to work in our communities one day. Huge thank you to everyone that came to help and to Portland Fire/Firefighters for your help and use of the building. It takes a village. The more we train together, the better our teamwork is in the field.
Our ongoing EMT class meets twice a week and will soon start riding on the ambulance in clinical hours.

-Next weekend our employees and first responders can attend Traffic Incident Management course put on by the state which is now a requirement of their certification.

Here is a summarized list of some of the training our employees/local first responders have participated in during the last 6 months.
-CPR/Basic Resuscitation
-Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS)
-Pre-hospital trauma life support (PHTLS)
-Advanced Medical Life support (AMLS)
-Emergency Vehicle Operations(EVO)
-Emergency Airport Training
-Rural Trauma Simulation (IU JAY)

We should never stop learning/training and striving to be better because the next call matters… the next person in need matters.
