Happy Juneteenth! PPL will be closed today in observance.

Did you know that Juneteenth, or Freedom Day, is the OLDEST nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States? The celebration of Juneteenth as a holiday began in Galveston, Texas in the 1860's. Now, Americans observe this day of celebration, hope, and remembrance throughout the country.

Lo Que Trajimos – What We Brought With Us in on view for just a couple of more weeks! This exhibition by Teen Creative Fellowship artist Adaliz Rivera, a high school junior, explores personal and community stories connected to the Dominican residents of Providence.

Through research, hand built sculptural installations, sound, and storytelling, Adaliz honors Dominican culture, migration, memory, and the meaning of finding home. Each piece invites visitors to reflect on identity, belonging, and the stories we carry with us.

Come see this exhibition on the third floor during regular Library hours.

Join us on June 27 for Plant a Pollinator Container workshop, a family workshop in which participants will create their own pollinator-friendly planter to take home. We will identify different kinds of pollinators and which ones might be found in our backyards, and discuss the ways plants and flowers provide food for pollinators in their various stages of life. Each participating family will choose from a variety of flowering plants to create their planter. (Note: Families may bring a container or we will have black plastic containers available for use.)

***Registration is required and space is limited.***
https://provlib.libcal.com/event/16990102

The workshop will be held in the library parking lot, located behind the library and accessed via a ramp on Washington Street (next to the bus shelter) or a driveway on Fountain Street. We will meet rain or shine - we'll set up inside the garage if it is raining.

Thank you to Jacavone Garden Center in Johnston for the beautiful plants and soil. Thank you to OLIS for the grant funding for this event.
