Reading Community Library The Reading Community Library serves Reading, Reading Township and Cambria Township. Community Service is Our Priority!

We are members of Mel.org which means that if we don’t have a book on our shelves that you want we can borrow it from another library. This is just one of the many free services that we provide. Did you know that we have a book club, an ancestry club, provide free access to Consumer Report on line, rent newly released DVD titles for a nominal fee, have computers for public access and so much more. The library is your community resource-enjoy it.

We are excited to share that Reading Community Library has officially joined 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten! 🥳 📚

~ What is 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten? 📚
The concept is simple, the rewards are priceless. Read a book (any book) to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler. The goal is to have read 1,000 books before your child starts kindergarten. If you read just 1 book a night, you will have read about 1,095 books in three years. If you consider that most children start kindergarten at around 5 years of age, you have more time than you think.

~ Who can participate in this program?
Any child from birth until they enter kindergarten can participate in the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program.

~ How long will the program take?
The program will take anywhere from a few months to a few years. The program is self‐paced and will depend on how often you read together.

~ How many of my children can participate?
All of them (provided they have not yet
started kindergarten). Make it even more fun and read as a family!

If you are able to, make sure to keep a record of any book that is being read to your child. This includes teachers and siblings.

We want to thank the Hillsdale County Community Foundation and Great Start Hillsdale County for supporting this wonderful program. If you are interested, come into the library today to register, pick up your folder, and begin a lifelong love of reading!
