REEDSPORT, OREGON — Mindpower Gallery will welcome the Museum of Techno Art (MTA) to Reedsport this fall with Exostoria Mechanica: Lost Fragments, a traveling exhibition that blurs the boundaries between art, invention, industrial history and imagination. The exhibition opens September 4, 2026, and continues through October 10, 2026, at Mindpower Gallery, 417 Fir Avenue in Reedsport. An Opening Reception will be held Friday, September 4, from 4–7 p.m., in conjunction with the gallery’s Vintage Nights at the Gallery — Where Art Meets the Vine.
Spotlight: The Museum of Techno Art
The Museum of Techno Art is not a conventional museum. It is a collective of dreamers, makers and artists from the Eugene, OR area. Featured artists include: Joe Mross, Steve La Riccia, Barbora Bakalarova, Max Rink, Neal Conner, Alan Ott, Ralf Huber, Steve Mast and Rob Bolman drawing a fascination with technology, machinery, industrial materials and the long history of human invention. Its artists work across sculpture, assemblage and mixed media, combining traditional processes with industrial techniques and materials—sometimes incorporating objects that have already lived an entirely different life. The results can be beautiful, strange, humorous and wonderfully difficult to categorize. Visitors to Exostoria Mechanica will encounter works constructed from metal, mechanical components, glass, hardware, repurposed consumer materials and unexpected remnants of the industrial world. Together, they suggest artifacts that might have arrived from the past, the future—or from a history that never quite happened. The collective's work explores retrofuturism, imaginative machines, technological history and repurposed industrial culture, while maintaining a sense of play and discovery.
The Curious World of Exostoria Mechanica
At the center of the exhibition is an invented history. Exostoria Mechanica is presented as a speculative discipline established in the 1880s, devoted to the investigation of mechanical artifacts whose origins and purposes remain uncertain. Its name offers a clue: Exo — outer, beyond Storia — story, history, account, narrative The objects now appearing at Mindpower Gallery, the story suggests, were once misfiled—or perhaps deliberately concealed—in forgotten, dusty warehouses. The conceit gives visitors permission to do something museums do not always encourage: wonder first and explain later. Is an object a machine? A relic? A scientific instrument? Evidence of some forgotten technology? Or simply an artist transforming familiar materials into something we have never seen before? That uncertainty is part of the exhibition.
Art, Technology and the Pleasure of Invention
The Museum of Techno Art turns that process into an artistic playground. Industrial fragments become sculpture. Mechanical components acquire personalities. Familiar materials become unfamiliar objects, and obsolete technologies can suddenly seem futuristic again. Rather than presenting technology only as something sleek and new, Exostoria Mechanica invites viewers to consider the beauty of gears, metal, mechanisms, handmade construction, aging surfaces and the evidence left behind by human ingenuity. Together they create something resembling a cabinet of mechanical curiosities—part art exhibition, part imaginary museum and part expedition into an alternate technological history.
Opening Night at Mindpower Gallery
The public is invited to experience Exostoria Mechanica: Lost Fragments during its Opening Reception on Friday, September 4, from 4–7 p.m.
The reception takes place during Vintage Nights at the Gallery — Where Art Meets the Vine, Mindpower Gallery's Friday evening program bringing together visual art, Oregon wine and conversation.
The exhibition will remain on view through October 10, 2026.
