Today, we are excited to welcome our newest middle school students as they kick off the 2026-27 school year.

We can't wait to welcome the rest of our scholars back on Monday, August 10, for the first day of school across Riverside Unified.

Martin Luther King High School is completing campus safety improvements that include a temporary student drop-off and pick-up traffic pattern this fall.

If you'll be traveling near the school during morning arrival or afternoon dismissal, you may experience increased traffic and longer travel times, particularly on or near Wood Road.

As we prepare to welcome students and staff back to campus, we ask everyone to help keep our school communities safe. Whether you're dropping off a student, walking to school, or driving through a school zone, every decision matters.

Please slow down, stay alert, follow school zone traffic laws, and help us ensure every student arrives safely each day.

Together, we can prevent tragedies and make safety a shared responsibility.

Conforme nos preparamos para darle la bienvenida a nuestros estudiantes y al personal de regreso a clases, le pedimos a todos a que nos ayuden a mantener nuestra comunidades escolares seguras. Riverside Unified Superintendent Dr. Sonia Llamas has been selected as one of 26 leaders nationwide for the 2026-27 Fellowship for Public Education Leadership at Yale School of Management, hosted by The Broad Center.

This prestigious national fellowship brings together education leaders committed to learning from one another and strengthening public schools. Dr. Llamas will bring those ideas and experiences back to Riverside Unified as we continue creating extraordinary opportunities for every scholar.

A new chapter in Career Technical Education begins at John W. North High School! 🎉

Riverside Unified celebrated the ribbon cutting of John W. North High School's new Advanced Manufacturing & Welding program, the first Career Technical Education program of its kind in the district.

With more than 190 students already enrolled, this new pathway reflects Riverside Unified's commitment to expanding future-ready opportunities that prepare scholars for college, careers, and beyond.

Students will gain hands-on learning experiences that build technical knowledge, professional skills, and the confidence to pursue whatever future they choose.

A special thank you to Tilden-Coil Constructors, Ruhnau Clarke Architects, and everyone whose collaboration helped make this exciting milestone possible.We can't wait to see the incredible things our scholars will build – not only in this classroom, but throughout their futures.

El Distrito Escolar Unificado de Riverside celebró la inauguración del nuevo programa de Fabricación Avanzada y Soldadura de la Preparatoria John W. North, el primer programa de Educación Técnica Profesional de este tipo en el distrito.

Con más de 190 estudiantes ya inscritos, esta nueva vía refleja el compromiso del Distrito Unificado de Riverside de ampliar las oportunidades orientadas al futuro que preparan a los estudiantes para la universidad, el mundo laboral y más allá.

The 2026-27 Riverside Unified Leadership Symposium brought together district and site leaders to strengthen relationships, deepen learning, and align around the work ahead.

Through collaboration, professional learning, and meaningful conversations, our leaders explored what it takes to build coherent systems, develop strong cultures, and create exceptional learning experiences for every student.

Enrollment is now open for all students, including both returning and new RUSD students.

Powerful stories remind us why we lead.

During Riverside Unified’s Leadership Symposium, keynote speakers Jack Clarke Jr. and Kevin Bracy challenged us to see leadership through the eyes of those we serve. Their messages reminded us that every student has a story, every interaction matters, and every adult has the power to change the trajectory of a child’s life.

Jack brought us home by reflecting on his journey as a proud John W. North High School graduate and the educators who believed in him. Kevin challenged us to lead with courage, authenticity, and heart.

As we begin this school year, we move forward with a renewed commitment to creating schools where every student is known, supported, challenged, and inspired to become the very best version of themselves.

Las historias impactantes nos recuerdan por qué lideramos.

Durante el Simposio de Liderazgo del Distrito Unificado de Riverside, los oradores principales, Jack Clarke Jr. y Kevin Bracy, nos animaron a ver el liderazgo desde la perspectiva de aquellos a quienes servimos. Riverside Unified is ready for an extraordinary 2026-27 school year!

Last week, principals, managers, and district leaders came together for the 2026-27 Leadership Symposium, themed One Riverside. One Vision. One Future united around a shared commitment to scholars.

Superintendent Dr. Sonia Llamas brought together Riverside Unified leaders: over 200 principals, assistant principals, managers, directors, supervisors, and cabinet leaders to align around our new Board approved five-year Strategic Plan and recommit to what matters most, creating the conditions where every student can thrive.

The work ahead is about more than initiatives. It is about building one coherent system where every decision, every classroom, and every school reflects our collective commitment to excellence, opportunity, and belonging.

Together, we are ready to make this an extraordinary year for every student, every employee, and every family we serve.

¡Riverside Unified está listo para un año escolar 2026-27 extraordinario!

La semana pasada, directores, gerentes y líderes del distrito se reunieron para el Simposio de Liderazgo 2026-27, bajo el tema Un Riverside. Una Visión. Un Futuro, unidos en torno a un compromiso compartido con los estudiantes.

La Superintendente, Dra. Sonia Llamas, reunió a los líderes de Riverside Unified —más de 200 directores, subdirectores, gerentes, directores de área, supervisores y miembros del gabinete— para alinearse en torno a nuestro nuevo Plan Estratégico de cinco años aprobado por la Junta y volver a comprometerse con lo que más importa: crear las condiciones para que cada estudiante pueda prosperar.
