🏆 Meet one of our 2026 Community Champions: Dr. Whitney Rapp!

For more than 20 years, Dr. Whitney Rapp has helped build a bridge between future educators and families of children with disabilities through a partnership with St. John Fisher and Starbridge—creating learning experiences that extend far beyond the classroom.

As a Professor of Inclusive Education at St. John Fisher University, Dr. Rapp has dedicated her career to preparing educators to understand that meaningful inclusion starts with listening, learning, and partnering with families.

And the impact of that work? It has reached classrooms and communities far beyond Rochester.

But that’s only a glimpse of what makes Dr. Rapp a Community Champion. 💫

A little stretching, a little fresh air, and a whole lot of beard! 🐐🧘

In honor of World Beard Day, we’re sharing these fun moments captured by our ComHab Counselor Dio during Yoga on the Riverway at Austin Steward Plaza! The free outdoor event brings together movement, nature, and the playful addition of goat yoga along the Genesee River.

Experiences like these are what Community Habilitation is all about—getting out into the community, trying something new, building connections, and having some fun along the way. 💚

And for World Beard Day, we think these four-legged friends understood the assignment! 🐐🏆

Fundraising opportunities like this are some of our favorite because we get to connect with the community, raise funds for important programs we run at no cost to those we serve, educate families on the resources we offer, and see eveyrone's smiling faces. A Rochester native, Aubrey believes in the potential of our community, and in creating the education, opportunities, and pathways people need to succeed.

Since partnering with Starbridge’s Project ESTEEM in 2023, Aubrey has helped young adults discover their strengths, build real-world skills, and prepare to take their next steps into the workforce.

But that’s only a glimpse of what makes Aubrey a Community Champion. 💫

We are proud to announce that Maritza Cubi has been promoted to Vice President of Culture, Access & Belonging and has joined Starbridge’s Executive Leadership Team.🌟

Maritza will lead efforts to strengthen accessibility across our programs, facilities, and communications; expand language access; and foster a culture where employees and the people we support feel welcomed, valued, and that they belong.

Maritza brings nearly 16 years of experience at Starbridge, from working directly with families as a Bilingual Family Education Specialist to leading Family Support Services and serving most recently as Director of Quality and Culture.

Throughout her career, Maritza has remained focused on identifying what stands between people and the support they need, then identifying valuable opportunities. Her leadership will help ensure access, inclusion, and belonging are embedded in how Starbridge operates, makes decisions, delivers services, and supports our community.

Our Annual Summer Picnic at one of the Starbridge Homes brought plenty of sunshine, great food, laughter, and quality time with friends and staff. From sharing a meal to enjoying the beautiful weather, it was a wonderful opportunity to connect, have fun, and make summer memories together.
