As the summer heat slowly comes to an end, it is time to look back at what our volunteers accomplished.
They visited encampments, searched out-of-the-way places, stopped to check on people at bus stops, responded to 211 calls, and supported guests at the cooling center. During those rounds, one question kept coming up: Why do so many city bus stops provide no shade? Throughout the summer, PVPS provided heat relief and medical services to approximately 1,000 people, including visitors, tourists, local residents, and vulnerable neighbors. Many needed help with sunburn, blisters, cuts, scrapes, and other minor conditions. Others required emergency-room evaluation following suspected overdoses, falls, heat exhaustion, or more serious medical concerns. Every one of these services was provided by volunteers. People who contributed their time, professional skills, and medical training to help neighbors in need. We are deeply grateful for their work and dedication.
