The quick answer to the question is, "Yes." The more valuable answer to the question is, "Instead of defund the police, we should be saying rethink public safety." We have proven in Silicon Valley that we can implement substantive reforms while respecting victims and maintaining public safety. That's why our community is one of the safety large counties in the nation year in and year out.

It has been more than six years since the largest wave of protests in American history. At the center of those protests was a demand that funding be shifted from police departments to public institutions and services geared toward mitigating poverty. I want to express my deep gratitude to the coalition of Silicon Valley faith and community leaders who courageously came together to write this op-ed denouncing a deeply disturbing antisemitic attack against me during my reelection campaign. While Silicon Valley is by no means perfect, we do have much to teach an increasingly divided nation about racial and religious harmony—and about our common purpose as Americans.

It is always difficult to seek to charge someone under the age of 18 as an adult. However, the extraordinary recklessness of this crime warranted that decision. & for all!

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office is seeking to try the suspect as an adult, citing his age and the severity of the alleged crimes.

Here are our final World Cup numbers. Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara hosted six 2026 FIFA World Cup matches: five group-stage matches and one Round of 32 match.

But it wasn't all fun and games.

Our Santa Clara County Human Trafficking Task Force in conjunction with he Northern California Regional Intelligence Center, during the course of those matches, officers rescued 53 survivors, including 11 children, arrested 25 offenders and 41 people for soliciting.

I am proud that Santa Clara County showcased itself to the world so well and so safely, and with one voice declared our intolerance for the illegal trafficking of human beings.

While fans from around the world were coming together to support their teams during the World Cup, multiple Bay Area law enforcement agencies were coming together to identify and rescue survivors of human trafficking, and to arrest offenders.
