The CDSS warns electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card users to avoid scams appearing on social media sites and online marketplaces. Be mindful of social media posts and advertisements posted by third-party sellers claiming to offer a “free government smartphone” or other items.

Anyone who encounters similar social media advertisements should not provide personal information, EBT card number, or PINs to anyone. Impacted cardholders who shared their information are encouraged to contact their local county office to request replacement of stolen benefits due to electronic theft. More about how to protect your benefits: https://www.cdss.ca.gov/ebt-card.
