We would like to express our congratulations to Staff Captain Pete Young, on his retirement effective August 1st, 2026.

Pete began his career with UFA as a paid call employee and achieved full-time status in 2009. He has operated in his current capacity as Staff Captain in Logistics since 2014.

Staff Captain Young did have one final message for his UFA Family:

"After 17+ years with this incredible department, it’s time for me to hang up my hat. I want you all to know how much I’ve loved every moment of working alongside you — the challenges we tackled together, the laughs we shared, and the pride I’ve felt being part of something bigger than myself.
Please take good care of the logistics while I’m gone — you’ve got this, and I have complete faith in this team. More than that, take care of each other. That’s what’s always made this place special.
Thank you for the memories. I’ll carry them with me.

Earlier this afternoon, crews responded to a grass fire in Magna City Government. As firefighters arrived on scene, additional resources were requested, including aerial water support.

Due to the rapid response and coordinated efforts, crews were able to quickly contain the fire and prevent the spread to nearby structures. The fire was contained to approximately 20 acres and is now fully extinguished.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. There were no reported injuries.

With gratitude, we continue to thank our partnering agencies and responding crews for their quick response, support, and dedication in helping keep our communities safe.

How many lives do cats have again?!

Against incredible odds, firefighters discovered a cat named Toast(yes, that's really its name!) alive inside the North Union Apartments more than 72 hours after the fire began.

Hidden inside a closet—one of the only spaces left standing in the apartment after the roof collapsed—the resilient cat survived days of smoke, hundreds of thousands of gallons of water being sprayed overhead, and the destruction all around.

Toast the cat was safely reunited with a very grateful owner, and aside from being wet, cold and a little scared, was otherwise healthy. Thank you to Salt Lake County Animal Services for helping out.

As we approach 60 hours of continuous operations on the North Union Apartments Fire, we want to extend our sincere gratitude to the many fire departments and law enforcement agencies that have stood alongside Unified Fire over the past 2 days. Incidents of this magnitude require an incredible amount of coordination, resources, and teamwork, and our neighboring agencies have answered the call without hesitation.

From providing firefighters and apparatus to assisting with traffic control, evacuations, logistics, drone flights and scene security, your support has allowed this operation to continue safely.

Thank you for your partnership, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to serving our community. We couldn't do this alone.

The support we've received from our community over the past 24 hours has been incredible.

As firefighters worked around the clock to battle the large apartment fire in Midvale, the Community and our partner agencies showed up in an incredible way! Thank you to everyone who has dropped off food, water, snacks, and other supplies for the firefighters working the apartment fire in Midvale. Your generosity means more than you know, and we have everything we could possibly need.

We also want to thank the various Police agencies that have helped protect the scene so our firefighters can operate safely. A huge thanks to the Midvale City Governmentand Canyons School Districtfor lending their space, helping organize volunteers and providing assistance to the hundreds of residents displaced by this fire.

If you'd still like to help, the American Red Cross is coordinating assistance and donations for those affected.

Thank you for standing with your firefighters and your neighbors during this difficult time.

During yesterday's Millcreek - Municipal Government City Council meeting, the Mayor and Council recognized Unified Fire Authority firefighters and officers from Unified Police Department of Greater Salt Lake, Millcreek and Holladay precincts for their outstanding efforts battling a large wildfire and 2 residential structure fires that occurred on July 12, 2026.

On one of the hottest days of the year, firefighters and officers worked tirelessly in challenging conditions to protect lives, homes, and property throughout the city. We are grateful to Mayor and City Council for taking the time to recognize the dedication, professionalism, and commitment to public safety displayed by all those involved.

Thank you, City of Millcreek, for your continued support of the men and women of Unified Fire. We are honored to serve your community.

Know the restrictions before lighting fireworks this Pioneer Day.

11 of the 15 municipalities and communities served by Unified Fire Authority have prohibited the use and discharge of fireworks citywide.

Herriman City, Kearns City Government, Riverton, Utah - City Government, and Taylorsville City Hall have not enacted a citywide fireworks ban, and will continue to use the fireworks restriction maps adopted on May 1, 2026.

Restrictions vary by location. Before using fireworks, visit the UFA website and check the current restriction map for your community and your specific address.

Please be responsible, follow all posted restrictions, and help us keep our neighborhoods, open spaces, and firefighters safe this Pioneer Day. Enjoy the holiday!
