Volunteer Opportunity for Attorneys

The San Francisco Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing is recruiting volunteer attorneys to serve as Shelter System Arbitrators.

Arbitrators help uphold fairness and accountability within San Francisco's shelter grievance process by reviewing cases and issuing impartial decisions.

If you're an active member of the California State Bar or a licensed federal attorney in any state, we encourage you to apply and help strengthen due process for shelter guests.

HSH’s next Community Listening Session takes place today Monday, September 14, from 4:30–6:30 PM at the Southeast Community Center, 1550 Evans Avenue (Hunters Point Room).

We invite community members, partners, and stakeholders to share input that will help shape San Francisco’s Homelessness Response System and inform the upcoming reprocurement of homelessness services and housing contracts.

At this month’s Homelessness Oversight Commission meeting, we recognized Noora Almajid as our September 2026 LimeLight Honoree.

Noora has been instrumental in leasing up three new TAY PSH buildings this fiscal year and continuously strengthens collaboration across Youth Coordinated Entry and Shelter teams. Her leadership contributes to system improvements that supported reductions in youth homelessness in the 2026 PIT count.

We’re proud to honor her dedication and impact.

HSH and DPH are activating a Hot Weather Protocol for September 9, 2026 due to forecasted high temperatures.

DPH Outreach teams will increase wellness checks, provide weather and shelter information, and distribute supplies to support those in need during the heat.

At this month’s Homelessness Oversight Commission meeting, we recognized Elizabeth Hewson as our August 2026 LimeLight Honoree.

Elizabeth has been with HSH for seven years and has led our site‑based Permanent Supportive Housing through major growth and transition. She has supported the opening of dozens of new PSH buildings and consistently provides thoughtful guidance and mentorship across the department. Her steady leadership has strengthened our programs and supported staff throughout challenging periods.

We’re grateful for Elizabeth’s commitment and proud to recognize her contributions.

The Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH) is preparing for a major reprocurement that will reshape how public funding supports homelessness services in San Francisco. This shift prioritizes client impact and measurable outcomes.

We’re currently seeking feedback from both service providers and community members to help inform program models, service needs, and funding considerations.
