This week, story time focuses on service animals and how they can help us. Do you know what the difference is between owning a pet and having a service animal? We will be joined by a local resident who will talk to us about service animals and what that means to not just the person who owns the animal, but for the community as well.

This past Thursday, 5/21, we released the butterflies! Thank you to all who came down to see them off and thank you to Mary, one of our library ladies, for capturing these amazing pictures! First my friends and I read some stories. One was about a caterpillar who has to wait and be patient while the transformation process happens (being patient is not always easy but worth it in the end). In the next story the butterfly now has to learn all about the job they have to do to help the ecosystem.

My friends displayed great patience while we read and talked. Finally, it was time to take the butterflies outside and send them off. It was amazing to see them flutter away. One even landed on the side of the library. Some of them also stayed around long enough to have their pictures taken. They tickle a little when they are sitting on your fingers and seem to be very curious. If you missed this year's release don't worry, we will be doing it again next spring! You just need to be a little patient and wait for the fun. We know you can do it!

Sayre Public Library will be closed today, Saturday, May 23, and Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day. We will reopen on Tuesday, May 26, at 10:00 a.m. We'll see you then!

The time has come for us to say goodbye to our butterfly friends. Join us tomorrow, 5/21 at 6:30pm for a story and then we will set them off into the world!

Storytime this morning was full of sounds! Big sounds, little sounds, silly sounds, even rainy sounds. My friends helped make the sound effects for some of the stories such as "The Doorbell Rang" by Pat Hutchins and the insect and nature sounds in the story "In the Tall, Tall Grass" by Denise Fleming. Do you have a favorite sound? I think my favorite sound is the sound of pages turning, but soup simmering in a pot is a comforting sound as well.

Libraries are not meant to be quiet and calm all the time, especially when there's lots of friends hanging out together! So, we had a noisy parade in which we stomped, clapped and giggled loudly. After that it was time to get to playing and making more and different sounds. Next week, 5/27 at 10:30am we will have a special guest visiting to tell us about service animals. Did you know that animals can have jobs? It's true, so we'll discover more together!

Caterpillar Update!

Over this pasted weekend we had nine beautiful butterflies emerge. We will be able to hang on to them until this Thursday 5/21 at 6:30 when we will release them into nature! You are still able to stop by and see them until then. Even though it would be nice to keep them around the library, butterflies have a big job to do. They are pollinators, we need them to help collect pollen and spread it around. Without them and bees our world would certainly be less colorful.

The world is full of sounds, from the time we get up in the morning until we go to sleep, there are hundreds of things we can listen to. I'll bet you thought books were quiet and don't make noises or sounds. Books make sounds all the time! You just have to know how to listen for them. Join us 5/20 at 10:30 am to hear and see for yourself that books can be loud.
