Time Travel Tuesday!
Mayor Robert H. McKune was invited to the presentation of colors and the laying of the corner stone of a new armory in Scranton for use by the Scranton City Guard. As a result of the Great Railroad Strike of 1877, the Scranton City Guard became an established military presence in the city to help calm labor unrest at coal mines and railroads . Operating as part of the National Guard, they would expand into the 13th Infantry Regiment of the National Guard. The armory would also expand and be rebuilt as the Watres Armory in 1900.
