Today, May 30, we remember and honor the life of Teyran “Ty” Patterson.

Born and raised in Seguin, Ty was a proud graduate of Seguin High School, Class of 1998—a true Matador. He was known not only for his strength and athleticism on the football field, basketball court, and track, but also for his honesty, kind heart, and unwavering integrity.

Ty began his public safety career as a dispatcher with the Seguin Police Department before answering a higher calling. He entered the 51st Texas Game Warden Academy and graduated in 2005, dedicating his life to protecting and serving the people and natural resources of Texas.

On May 30, 2010, while responding to a search-and-rescue operation on the Paluxy River in Somervell County, Ty and his partner were attempting to recover the body of a suspected drowning victim when their boat capsized in dangerous floodwaters. Ty was transported to a hospital in Fort Worth, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Ty made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others. His courage, selflessness, and dedication to duty will never be forgotten. Today, we honor his memory and reflect on the lasting impact he made on his family, friends, fellow first responders, and the community he proudly served.

May we never forget his sacrifice.
