Established in 1980, the Alaska Raptor Center provides medical treatment to over 200 injured bald eagles and other birds each year. Our goal is to release our patients back into the wild; some, however, are injured so severely they could not survive in the wild even after rehabilitation. These birds may join our Raptors-in-Residence, providing excitement and education for more than 36,000 annual visitors and for the 15,000 schoolchildren we reach through the Adopt-A-Raptor program and classroom presentations around the country.

Did you know Barn Swallows are the most widely distributed swallow species in the world? This little Barn Swallow was found in an abandoned nest in Juneau, AK. After a short stay in our ICU, this little bird is ready to fly into the wild! Good luck!

Here at the Alaska Raptor Center, accurately monitoring the weight of our patients in the Intensive Care Unit is a vital part of their care. However, it can be a bit challenging when working with a Bald Eagle's impressive 6 to 8-foot wingspan!

Oliver, a Golden Eagle and Raptor-in-Residence here at the Alaska Raptor Center, just coughed up a casting! A casting is when a bird of prey regurgitates the indigestible parts of their meal, such as fur and bones, in a compact bundle, similar to what you might know as an owl pellet!
