Our pantry is in need of your help! All November long, our office is hosting Stuff the Pantry, in hopes of making sure the Portage Pantry shelves are stocked for the demand that the holiday season brings. Between rising food costs, bills, rent, and more, families are finding it harder and harder to make ends meet.

Your donations the entire month of November will make a direct impact. Your generosity can help keep our pantry stocked and ensure our neighbors have access to the food and holiday staples they need.

What can you donate?

🥫Canned goods
🥔Instant potatoes and gravy
🍝Noodles and pasta
🍞Stuffing
🦃Holiday fixings and other pantry food staples

Drop off donations at:
340 Columbia Street, South Bend, IN 46601

Donation hours:

Monday–Thursday: 8:00 AM–4:30 PM
Friday: 8:00 AM–12:00 PM

Need help getting your donation to us? Donation pickup is available! Call 574-233-2126 to learn more.

Prefer to shop online? You can also order food directly through our Amazon Wishlist with the QR code or with the link in the comments!👇

Every can, box, and bag makes a difference. Let's fill our shelves, spread some holiday cheer, and make sure our community has a little more to be thankful for this November.

Tonight's NOURISH Cooking Class was as easy as, well, pie!! Trustee Jason Critchlow put on the apron this evening and taught our class how to make his homemade take on a Shepherd's Pie at the Portage Commons!

Thank you to everyone who came out to learn how to make a tasty comfort meal stuffed with seasoned ground beef, veggies, and topped with delicious mashed potatoes! Not only did we eat, but participants left with a bag of groceries to make the dish at home for themselves and their families!

WOAH!! That's a wrap on Coats for Kids 2026! We are so grateful to our partners at Meijer for teaming up with us during this day of giving back. With our combined effort, families in Portage Township were able to select winter coats, hats, and more to keep their kids warm this winter!

Programs like Coats for Kids go beyond just a simple government transaction within our office. It's a chance for us to connect over very real, human moments with our clients. It reminds our residents that they aren't alone. These are the moments that add up and build real change within our wonderful community. Thank you to the awesome staff at Meijer for all their help! We are also incredibly thankful for all the families who applied and came out for their winter gear today. Thank you!!

Want to stay in the loop? Keep your eyes peeled to our social media, newsletters, and website, for all the latest Portage Township info!

Thank you to our chef and to all who came out tonight to learn, connect, and eat this evening! A big shout-out to the Kroc Center of South Bend for hosting our program! Learn more about our program with the link in the comments!

What another incredible night at the Portage Commons for Community & Conversations!

There’s something special about sharing a meal. It’s more than what’s on the plate; it’s the conversations, the laughter, the familiar faces, and the new connections that remind us we’re never truly alone in our community.

At the Portage Township Trustee Office, we believe everyone deserves a place at the table. Events like this are a beautiful reminder that sometimes, the most meaningful thing we can do is simply show up, share a meal, and make space for one another.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who joined us, helped make this evening possible, and continues to make Portage Township a place where neighbors look out for neighbors. 💛
